1. A number of inclusion theorems have been given in connection with methods of summation which include the Riesz method (R, λ, κ). Lorentz [4, Theorem 10] gives necessary and sufficient conditions for a sequence to sequence regular matrix A = (an, v) to be such that A ⊃ (R, λ, 1)†. He imposes restrictions on the sequence { λn}, so that A does not include all Riesz methods of order 1. In Theorem 1 below, we generalize the Lorentz theorem by giving a condition without restriction on λn, If the matrix A is a series to sequence or series to function regular matrix, there do not appear to be any results concerning the general inclusion

A ⊃ (R, λ, κ).

However, when A is the Riemann method (ℜ, λ, μ), Russell [7], generalizing earlier results, has given sufficient conditions for (ℜ, λ, μ) ⊃ (R, λ, κ). Our Theorem 2 gives necessary and sufficient conditions for A ⊃ (R, λ, 1), where A satisfies the condition an, v → 1 (n →co, ν fixed). Thus Theorem 2 applies to any series to sequence regular matrix A. In Theorem 3 we give a further representation for matrices A which include (R, λ, 1), and finally make some remarks on the problem of characterizing matrices which include Riesz methods of any positive order κ.

Let H denote a separable, infinite dimensional Hilbert space. To find a “ description of the structure of bands which is complete modulo semilattices ” (from page 25 of [1]) seems to be a very difficult problem. As far as the author is aware, the only class of bands (except for rectangular bands) for which this problem has been solved (see [4] and [3]) is the class of all bands satisfying a generalization of commutativity, namely the condition that efgh = egfh for all elements e, f, g and h.

The linear group GLn(C) acts on Xm, n by simultaneous conjugation. The corresponding ring of polynomial invariants

will be denoted by C(n, m) and is called the ring of matrix invariants of m-tuples of n by n matrices. C. Procesi has shown in [8] that C(n, m) is generated by traces of products of the corresponding generic matrices and, as such, coincides with the center of the trace ring of m generic n by n matrices R (n, m) which is also the ring of equivariant maps from Xm, n to Mn(ℂ).

Associated with $T=U|T|$ (polar decomposition) in ${\cal{L}}({\bf H})$ is a related operator $\skew3\tilde{T} = |T|^{\frac{1}{2}}U|T|^{\frac{1}{2}}$, called the Aluthge transform of $T$. In this paper we study some connections between $T$ and $\skew3\tilde{T}$, including the following relations; the single valued extension property, an analogue of the single valued extension property on $W^{m}(D, {\bf H})$, Dunford's property $(C)$ and the property $(\beta)$.

We develop results for bifurcation from the principal eigenvalue for certain operators based on the $p$-Laplacian and containing a superlinear nonlinearity with a critical Sobolev exponent. The main result concerns an asymptotic estimate of the rate at which the solution branch departs from the eigenspace. The method can also be applied for nonpotential operators.

There is a commutative algebra of differential-difference operators, acting on polynomials on , associated with the reflection group B 2. This paper presents an integral transform which intertwines this algebra, allowing one free parameter, with the algebra of partial derivatives. The method of proof depends on properties of a certain class of balanced terminating hypergeometric series of 4 F 3-type. These properties are in the form of recurrence and contiguity relations and are proved herein.

In this paper, we establish a new (but equivalent) definition of projective Hjelmslev planes of level n. This shows that the nth floor of a triangle building is a projective Hjelmslev plane of level n (a result already announced in [9], but left unproved). This will allow us to characterize Artmann-sequences by means of their inverse limits and to construct new ones. We also deduce a new existence theorem for level n projective Hjelmslev planes. All results hold in the finite as well as in the infinite case.

In recent years there have appeared solutions of several integral equations of the type

in which the kernel K(x) contains (as a factor) one of the classical orthogonal polynomials or a hypergeometric function.

It is well-known [3; V.13.7] that each irreducible complex character of a finite group G is rational valued if and only if for each integer m coprime to the order of G and each g ∈ G, g is conjugate to gm. In particular, for each positive integer n, the symmetric group on n symbols, S(n), has all its irreducible characters rational valued. The situation for projective characters is quite different. In [5], Morris gives tables of the spin characters of S(n) for n ≤ 13 as well as general information about the values of these characters for any symmetric group. It can be seen from these results that in no case are all the spin characters of S(n) rational valued and, indeed, for n ≥ 6 these characters are not even all real valued. In section 2 of this note, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for each irreducible character of a group G associated with a 2-cocycle α to be rational valued. A corresponding result for real valued projective characters is discussed in section 3. Section 1 contains preliminary definitions and notation, including the definition of projective characters given in [2].

In a recent paper, E. Størmer, among other things, proves the existence of an isometric isomorphism from the measure algebra M(G) of a locally compact abelian group G into BB(L2(G)), ([6], Proposition 4.6). Here we give another proof for this result which works for non-commutative G as well as commutative G. We also prove that the algebra L1(G, λ), with λ the left (or right) Haar measure, is not isometrically isomorphic with an algebra of operators on a Hilbert space. The proofs of these two results are taken from the author's Ph.D. thesis [4], submitted to the University of Edinburgh before Størmer's paper. The author wishes to thank Dr. A. M. In this paper, we introduce a notion of unistructural cluster algebras, for which the set of cluster variables uniquely determines the clusters, as well as the notion of weak unistructural cluster algebras, for which the set of cluster variables determines the clusters, provided that the type of the cluster algebra is fixed. We prove that, for cluster algebras of the Dynkin type, the two notions of unistructural and weakly unistructural coincide, and that cluster algebras of rank 2 are always unistructural. We then prove that a cluster algebra $\mathcal A$ is weakly unistructural if and only if any automorphism of the ambient field, which restricts to a permutation of cluster variables of $\mathcal A$, is a cluster automorphism. We also investigate the Fomin-Zelevinsky conjecture that two cluster variables are compatible if and only if one does not appear in the denominator of the Laurent expansions of the other.

It is well known that a ring R is an exchange ring iff, for any a ∈ R, a−e ∈ (a2−a)R for some e2 = e ∈ R iff, for any a ∈ R, a−e ∈ R(a2−a) for some e2 = e ∈ R. The paper is devoted to a study of the rings R satisfying the condition that for each a ∈ R, a−e ∈ (a2−a)R for a unique e2 = e ∈ R. This condition is not left–right symmetric. The uniquely clean rings discussed in (W. K. Nicholson and Y. Zhou, Rings in which elements are uniquely the sum of an idempotent and a unit, Glasgow Math. J. 46 (2004), 227–236) satisfy this condition. These rings are characterized as the semi-boolean rings with a restricted commutativity for idempotents, where a ring R is semi-boolean iff R/J(R) is boolean and idempotents lift modulo J(R) (or equivalently, R is an exchange ring for which any non-zero idempotent is not the sum of two units). Various basic properties of these rings are developed, and a number of illustrative examples are given.

Let B be a submodule of an R-module M. The intersection of all prime (resp. weakly prime) submodules of M containing B is denoted by rad(B) (resp. wrad(B)). A generalisation of 〈E(B)〉 denoted by UE(B) of M will be introduced. The inclusions 〈E(B)〉 ⊆ UE(B) ⊆ wrad(B) ⊆ rad(B) are motivations for studying the equalities UE(B) = wrad(B) and UE(B) = rad(B) in this paper. It is proved that if R is an arithmetical ring, then UE(B) = wrad(B). In Theorem 2.5, a generalisation of the main result of [11] is given.

This paper is a continuation for the study of the zero-divisor graph for the ring of Gaussian integers modulo n, Γ(ℤn[i]) in [8] (Emad Abu Osba, Salah Al-Addasi and Nafez Abu Jaradeh. Zero divisor graph for the ring of Gaussin integers modulo n. Comm. Algebra 36(10) (2008), 3865–3877). It is investigated, when is Γ(ℤn[i]) locally H, Hamiltonian or bipartite graph? A full characterisation for the chromatic number and the radius is also given.

Any moduli space of representations of a quiver (possibly with oriented cycles) has an embedding as a dense open subvariety into a moduli space of representations of a bipartite quiver having the same type of singularities. A connected quiver is Dynkin or extended Dynkin if and only if all moduli spaces of its representations are smooth.

In our previous work, we established the theory of multi-variable Witten zeta-functions, which are called the zeta-functions of root systems. We have already considered the cases of types A2, A3, B2, B3 and C3. In this paper, we consider the case of G2-type. We define certain analogues of Bernoulli polynomials of G2-type and study the generating functions of them to determine the coefficients of Witten's volume formulas of G2-type. Next, we consider the meromorphic continuation of the zeta-function of G2-type and determine its possible singularities. Finally, by using our previous method, we give explicit functional relations for them which include Witten's volume formulas.
