Technical aspects of the production of photographic Sky Surveys and Atlasses are discussed. The need to optimize all factors, e.g. telescope site, telescope optics, mechanics and control system, hypersensitization, calibration, processing and reproduction is illustrated by the ESO 1m Schmidt telescope and the ESO Sky Surveys.
