Heterosis observed in the hybrids between some improved multivoltines and bivoltines of Bombyx mori L.

Abstract

Heterobeltiosis (relative to better parental variety) and standard heterosis (relative to standard variety) for 10 larval and cocoon quantitative traits among the hybrids between five multivotine and three bivoltine strains of silkworm, Bombyx mori L., were estimated. The results indicated that the hybrids between multivoltine females and bivoltine males gave higher heterosis than their reciprocals. Variance due to general and specific combining ability and the genetic components were also estimated. The role of gene actions governing the different traits studied is discussed.

Résumé

L'hétérobeltiosis (par rapport à une meilleure variété parentale) et l'hétérosis standard (par rapport à une variété standard) de traits quantitatifs de 10 larves et de 10 cocons parmi les hybrides entre cinq races multivoltines et trois races bivoltines de ver à soie, Bombyx mori L., ont été estimés. Les résultats ont indiqué que les hybrides entre les multivoltines femelles et les bivoltines mâles donnaient un hétérosis supérieur à ceux de leurs réciproques. La variance due à l'aptitude de combinaison spécifique et les composantes génétiques ont aussi été estimées. Le rôle des effets de gène qui réglent les différents traits étudiés est discuté.
