Laboratory studies on the impact of drought on egg development, survival and hatchling weight in Locusta migratoria migratorioides (Reiche and Fairmaire)

Abstract

The influence of drought on egg development, survival and hatchling weight was studied in the solitary phase of Locusta migratoria migratorioides (Reiche and Fairmaire). There was retarding effect of drought on the rate of egg development. The level of egg survival was lowered during prolonged drought, which also led to a decline in hatchling weight. Also the rate of egg survival was lower in eggpods experiencing longer incubation period.

Résumé

L'influence de la sécheresse sur le dévelopment, la survie et le poids des larves a était étudié dans la phase solitaire de Locusta migratoria migratorioides (Reiche et Fairmaire). La durée de la sécheresse joue une rôle d'importance sur la période d'incubation; c'est à dire que la sécheresse tarde le dévelopment de l'oeuf. La dégrée de la survie de l'oeuf est bien basée par la sécheresse prolongée, qui est aussi nuisible au poids des larves. Aussi la dégrée de la survie est basée par l'incubation prolongée.
