This issue of Laser and Particle Beams contains the papers submitted for publication by participants of the 14th International Heavy Ion Inertial Fusion (HIF) Symposium held in Moscow, May 26–31, 2002. This conference was organized by State Research Center of Russian Federation, Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics, Moscow, under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Beam Plasma and Inertial Fusion Section of the European Physical Society, and Accelerator Council of Russian Academy of Science. The symposium was supported by the Ministry of Atomic Energy of Russian Federation, Russian Academy of Science, Russian Foundation for Basic Research, International Science, and Technology Center, and by GSI Darmstadt.
