Fiona Durrant is Deputy Manager of the Library and Information Centre within the Knowledge Management Department at Baker & McKenzie, the London office of which has 361 legal professionals and is part of a network of 66 offices in 36 jurisdictions. Fiona has worked at Baker & McKenzie for over six years and has had varied roles including managing the Research Desk, the online resource budget and being involved in training solicitors in using research tools. In her spare time Fiona likes to take to the skies in small aircraft and potter around in her garden.

The subject of this article is not strictly limited to law librarianship but I do feel that it is a topic that a large number of us are exposed to and for which I myself initially had little guidance. In the hard financial climate that we have been experiencing recently, negotiating good contract renewals has become a vital skill for any legal information professional.
