Improvement of the physical performances of food cans by using a steel grade with high mechanical strength and high ductility
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 04 June 2003
Abstract
The ends of food cans are submitted to higher and higher loads due to the persistent thickness reduction required by the canmakers. A finite element model supported by experimental tests shows that the physical performances of lightened food can ends are perceptibly improved by using an adapted design and the new steel grade, having increased mechanical properties and ductility, developed by Arcelor Packaging International.
