Formation and Densification of R-α'-SiAIONS (R = Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er and Yb)

Abstract

The densification behavior and formation characteristics of R-α'-Sialons (R = Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er and Yb) hot-pressed in the temperature range of 1500ºC-1750ºC have been studied. The temperatures required for full densification decrease and the content of the α-Sialon phase increases with an increasing atomic number of R.
