Abstract

The nucleation of intermediate phases at the interphase boundary indiffusion couples is examined theoretically. A variational procedure isdescribed which allows for a self consistent determination of the criticalnucleus size and shape, the work of formation of the critical nucleus andthe nucleation rate.
