The Narrow-Band System La1-xSrxTiO3

Abstract
Magnetic, transport, and structural data on polycrystalline samples of the system La1-xSrxTiO3, 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.8, show an abrupt, but apparently smooth, transition from p-type polaronic conduction in a canted-spin antiferromagnetic system for x ≤ 0.04 to metallic, mass-enhanced Pauli paramagnetic behavior for x ≥ 0.1 with evidence for a spin glass and a discontinuous drop in TN in the transition range. We interpret these results as a manifestation of the coexistence of two distinguishable electronic domains within a single crystallographic phase as a result of cooperative displacements of the oxygen atoms.
