The World Economy

Published online by Cambridge University Press:  26 March 2020

Abstract

The National Institute produces four World Economy forecasts each year based on the output of the Global Model, NiGEM. We have rebased and expanded the model. The trade and competitiveness system is now based on the pattern of trade in 1987, and we have adapted the model in order that we can produce forecasts for Spain, the EC as a whole, and the OECD as a whole. We will report on the associated research in subsequent issues of the Review.

We would like to thank Andrew Britton, Garry Young, Nigel Pain and David Mayes for helpful comments and Helen Finnegan and Florence Hubert for statistical assistance. The forecast was prepared using our Global Econometric Model, NiGEM. The model is available from the Institute. It was developed by the Institute and is now jointly maintained with the London Business School. The forecast was completed on 11th November.
