2 James A. Davis has several books and articles on American bands, most notably, Music Along the Rapidan: Civil War Soldiers, Music, and Community During Winter Quarters, Virginia (Lincoln: University of Nebraska Press, 2014) and ‘Bully for the Band!’: The Civil War Letters and Diary of Four Brothers in the 10th Vermont Infantry Band (Jefferson, NC: McFarland, 2012). Gleason mentions the latter, but does not engage with it or list it in the bibliography. While Benjamin Grierson is noted in Gleason’s prose, Lavern J. Wagner’s, Band Music from the Benjamin H. Grierson Collection (Madison, A-R Editions, 1998) is not mentioned.
