Call for applications for The Whitley Awards 2008
Do you know an effective nature conservation leader who deserves recognition? The Whitley Fund for Nature is a UK registered charity offering a range of awards to outstanding nature conservation leaders around the world. The Fund aims to source and fund the world’s most dynamic conservation leaders, support work rooted in good science that also emphasizes the benefits of habitats to local communities, fund pragmatic projects that have a long-lasting impact, help winners raise their profile, network and educate others, and work with winners to heighten public awareness of the serious problems facing ecosystems worldwide.
The Whitley Fund celebrates and funds effective conservation leaders through Awards of up to GBP 30,000. The Awards are the result of a competitive process, and of the Whitley Award Winners selected each year one recipient goes on to win the Gold Award, worth an additional GBP 30,000 over a second year. The awards are presented at the Whitley Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Fund’s patron HRH The Princess Royal, at the Royal Geographical Society in London, UK.
If you are a dynamic conservationist working outside the developed world who would like to gain publicity and funding for your project, you are invited to apply for The Whitley Awards 2008. In 2007 the success rate of applicants who applied and received some form of grant was high at 23% (1 in 4.3 applications were successful). The deadline for the next Whitley Awards is 31 October 2007. Please note that the Fund does not support undergraduate projects, expeditions, MScs, or pure-research PhD work. Fondo Embajadores de las Nubes (The Cloud Ambassadors Fund)
Researchers and conservationists are encouraged to apply to The Cloud Ambassadors Fund, which has been created by the combined efforts of several zoological institutions, and is designed to support field projects with the ultimate goal of conserving the horned guan Oreophasis derbianus and its habitat. The projects supported by these endeavours should address conservation priorities that have been previously identified by the International Committee for the Conservation of the Horned Guan and its Habitat. A committee, formed by the participating institutions, evaluates project proposals. Funds are distributed twice a year and applications must be received before 1 January or 1 July. Funding for individual projects ranges from USD 2,000 to 9,000 per year. Recipients of The Cloud Ambassadors Fund are requested to submit 6-monthly interim reports. Conservation Leadership Programme
The Conservation Leadership Programme (formerly the BP Conservation Programme) is an innovative partnership between BirdLife International, Fauna & Flora International, the Wildlife Conservation Society, Conservation International, and BP. The Programme works to develop the potential of future biodiversity conservation leaders by providing a range of awards, training, advice and sustained support via an active international network of practitioners.
