The British Graham Land Expedition 1934–37
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 27 October 2009
Extract
After three summer and two winter seasons' work, the British Graham Land Expedition has returned from West Antarctica. It is intended here not so much to describe the scientific and survey results as to give a résumé of its activities from the time of its initiation.
The objects of the expedition as originally outlined was to explore as much of the Antarctic coastline between Luitpold Land and Charcot Land as possible, from a base established as far south on the west coast of South Graham Land as ice-conditions would allow. The scientific programme was to include regular meteorological observations, biological, geological and glaciological research.
