CONFERENCE PROGRAM
An anticipated 6,500 political scientists will participate in the three and half days of sessions—and the preliminary day of short courses—from which to choose. Sessions are developed by APSA sections, divisions, and related groups. The preliminary program will be available at the end of May.
In addition to the educational sessions, meeting highlights will include the presidential address by Kathleen Thelen, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; the opening reception; career placement; the APSA awards ceremony; APSA section and partner meetings and receptions; and an exhibit hall with more than 100 publishers, classroom software technology providers, and more. The popular new session formats, introduced in 2016, will return, allowing for more interactive discussion and participation.

PARTICIPATION
After a successful Call for Proposals, the Annual Meeting conference co-chairs have been busy planning and confirming details for approximately 40 plenaries, theme panels, and breaking-news sessions.
Proposal acceptances went out last month, and participants are confirming their participation roles. When accepting panel and individual paper proposals, it is important to follow the four 2018 participation rules:
Rule 1: Participation Limitation
Please note that participation is limited to (2) roles, with a maximum of (1) paper author role. This allows for an individual to have up to (2) non-author presenter appearances (for example, on a roundtable or Author Meets Critics panel), or (1) non-author presenter role and (1) paper author role. Chair and discussant roles are service roles and do not count towards this limit.
An attendee may present only one paper at the conference, but may appear on the program as a non-presenting coauthor on two other papers without exceeding participation limits.
Paper author roles are included on full paper panels, as well as mini-conferences. These roles are listed as “Author” in the submission system and participants will upload a paper to correspond with their presentation.
Non-author presenter roles are traditionally in roundtables, Author Meets Critics, cafes, workshops, and mini-conferences. These roles are listed as “Presenter” in the submission system. Exemptions
1. Participation as a non-presenting coauthor does not count towards the Author presentation limit.
2. Participation as a discussant or chair does not count towards any appearance limits.
3. Participation in one theme panel is allowed. If you’ve met the two participation roles, an exemption is available for one theme panel.
4. Participation in one APSA panel or status committee panel is allowed. If you’ve met the two participation roles, an exemption is available for one APSA panel.
5. Participating in or presenting a paper on a panel organized by Division 9: Teaching and Learning in Political Science & Political Science Education does not count towards these limits.
6. If a person is appearing during a panel session as an Author or Coauthor presenter, serving as chair or discussant of the same session does not count towards the participation limit.
7. Participation in or leadership of pre-conference workshops or short courses does not count towards the participation limit.
8. Participation in a Research Cafe does not count towards the participation limit.
9. Delivery of an iPoster presentation does not count towards the participation limit.
Rule 2: Pre-registration
APSA requires all program participants to pre-register by June 11, 2018. Participants who do not pre-register by June 11 will be removed from the program.
Rule 3: Paper Delivery
As a paper presenter, you have an important obligation to ensure that all members of your panel, especially discussants, receive your paper two weeks prior to the conference, with enough time to prepare for the meeting. Papers should be uploaded to the conference system no later than August 13, 2018.
Rule 4: Panel Schedule
Panels are scheduled in time slots beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday and concluding at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Participants are expected to be available for any of the time slots. Please note that due to the large number of participants on the meeting program, scheduling requests are not accepted.
TRAVEL GRANTS
APSA provides travel grants to assist some members in attending the Annual Meeting. APSA members who are US graduate students, international graduate students studying in the US, unemployed, or international scholars are eligible to apply. If selected, recipients must pre-register for the APSA Annual Meeting in order to be able to receive travel grants. Priority will be given to applicants who will present at the Annual meeting, to first-time applicants, or those who have not received a travel grant since 2015.
