Kruskal, Harshman and Lundy have contrived a special 2 × 2 × 2 array to examine formal properties of degenerate Candecomp/Parafac solutions. It is shown that for this array the Candecomp/Parafac loss has an infimum of 1. In addition, the array will be used to challenge the tradition of fitting Indscal and related models by means of the Candecomp/Parafac process.

The problem of dependence of the nonnormed fit index on sample size in covariance structure analysis is discussed. Contrary to Bollen (1986) we show that the mean of the nonnormed fit index is independent of sample size for true and almost true models whereas Bollen's alternative index does depend on sample size.

Algebraic properties of the normal theory maximum likelihood solution in factor analysis regression are investigated. Two commonly employed measures of the within sample predictive accuracy of the factor analysis regression function are considered: the variance of the regression residuals and the squared correlation coefficient between the criterion variable and the regression function. It is shown that this within sample residual variance and within sample squared correlation may be obtained directly from the factor loading and unique variance estimates, without use of the original observations or the sample covariance matrix.

In van der Heijden and de Leeuw (1985) it was proposed to use loglinear analysis to detect interactions in a multiway contingency table, and to explore the form of these interactions with correspondence analysis. After performing the exploratory phase of the analysis, we will show here how the results found in this phase can be used for confirmation.
