43(1) marks the first year of our editorship of the Review of International Studies. We would like to extend our thanks to Reviewers and members of the Editorial Board for their invaluable help over the last 12 months. It has been a privilege to oversee the final publication of work submitted under the tenure of the previous editorial team and we hope that you, the readers of the journal, have enjoyed the variety of contributions that have been published in the last year, as much as we have.
We are excited by the thought-provoking pieces that will appear in the 2017 volume, and are pleased that some of these are already accessible through the Cambridge Core First View facility. We have been experimenting with Twitter as a way of promoting the work of our authors, and have been very pleased to see this having a positive effect, driving up downloads of their pieces, and increasing engagement with their work. The journal’s Twitter feed now has over 2000 followers. We aim to work more closely with authors going forward to help them disseminate their work more widely, including through shorter blog pieces via Cambridge Core, which we hope will lead to increased debate.
We will have a strong presence at the 2017 BISA and ISA conferences, and are keen to meet readers and potential authors. Do please get in touch if you’d like to discuss prospective articles with us. We will be sponsoring two panels at the BISA conference, connected to the 2017 Special Issue.
Our aim throughout 2017 is to action our editorial intent more concretely, enhancing the journal’s international reputation, and attracting higher numbers of submissions from women and from a more diverse pool of scholars from around the world. The editors will attend conferences and workshops in India, South Africa and Japan, and we will be working with members of the journal’s international editorial board to ensure the journal has a presence at several additional conference destinations.
Call for Proposal for Review of International Studies Special Issue 2018
Readers interested in putting together a Special Issue and acting as Guest Editor(s) with a member of the RIS Editorial Team, should submit proposals by 1st April 2017 to:reviewofinternationalstudies@kent.ac.uk
Proposals relating to any area of the discipline are welcome, and we are happy to consider proposals from people who have previously approached us informally about special issues. The proposal should comprise the following:

1. Name, affiliation and contact details of the proposed guest editor;

2. Names of contributors;

3. Background and rationale for the proposal;

4. Detailed abstracts of all papers.
In line with our aspirations for the journal, set out in our inaugural editorial in January 2016 (42: 1), we are particularly keen to receive proposals that are empirically rich, and that push the boundaries of the discipline through theoretical, conceptual and methodological innovation. We also strongly encourage readers proposing special issues to pay attention to diversity, both in terms of the gender of contributors, and through the inclusion of scholars from around the world.
The successful proposal will be selected by members of the editorial team and members of the editorial advisory board. The Special Issue is likely to be published in July 2018. Please note that articles submitted to Special Issues will be peer reviewed as closely as those under regular submission to the journal. We very much look forward to reading your proposals.
