1 Martin's figure of 80,000 to 100,000 (p. 1) is much too high. Ovdienko gives 60,000 for all the minorities in that region, i.e., Orochons, Solons, Dagurs, Manegirs, and “others.” Cf. (Moscow, 1954), p. 65. His estimates are based on Chinese sources.
