Models of Population Synthesis

We present models of chemical and photometric evolution of galaxies. We show that the onset of the AGB phase at a few 108yr causes a sudden change in the infrared colours of the galaxy. However, this powerful indicator of the time of galaxy formation is wiped out by cosmological effects.
