This paper deals with some Monge–Ampère type equations involving the gradient that are elliptic in the framework of convex functions. First, we show that such equations may be obtained by minimizing a suitable functional. Moreover, we investigate a P-function associated with the solution to a boundary value problem of our generalized Monge–Ampère equation in a bounded convex domain. It will be shown that this P-function attains its maximum value on the boundary of the underlying domain. Furthermore, we show that such a P-function is actually identically constant when the underlying domain is a ball. Therefore, our result provides a best possible maximum principles in the sense of L. E. Payne. Finally, in case of dimension 2, we prove that this P-function also attains its minimum value on the boundary of the underlying domain. As an application, we will show that the solvability of a Serrin’s type overdetermined problem for our generalized Monge–Ampère type equation forces the underlying domain to be a ball.

In this paper we state some sharp maximum principle, i.e. we characterize the geometry of the sets of minima for supersolutions of equations involving the $k$-th fractional truncated Laplacian or the $k$-th fractional eigenvalue which are fully nonlinear integral operators whose nonlocality is somehow $k$-dimensional.

We consider a one-dimensional superprocess with a supercritical local branching mechanism $\psi$, where particles move as a Brownian motion with drift $-\rho$ and are killed when they reach the origin. It is known that the process survives with positive probability if and only if $\rho<\sqrt{2\alpha}$, where $\alpha=-\psi'(0)$. When $\rho<\sqrt{2 \alpha}$, Kyprianou et al. [18] proved that $\lim_{t\to \infty}R_t/t =\sqrt{2\alpha}-\rho$ almost surely on the survival set, where $R_t$ is the rightmost position of the support at time t. Motivated by this work, we investigate its large deviation, in other words, the convergence rate of $\mathbb{P}_{\delta_x} (R_t >\gamma t+\theta)$ as $t \to \infty$, where $\gamma >\sqrt{2 \alpha} -\rho$, $\theta \ge 0$. As a by-product, a related Yaglom-type conditional limit theorem is obtained. Analogous results for branching Brownian motion can be found in Harris et al. [13].

In this paper, we study some properties of the generalized Fokker–Planck equation induced by the time-changed fractional Ornstein–Uhlenbeck process. First of all, we exploit some sufficient conditions to show that a mild solution of such equation is actually a classical solution. Then, we discuss an isolation result for mild solutions. Finally, we prove the weak maximum principle for strong solutions of the aforementioned equation and then a uniqueness result.

We present a Hopf boundary point lemma for the difference between two Hölder continuously differentiable functions, each weak solutions to a divergence-form quasilinear equation, under mild boundedness assumptions on the coefficients of this equation.

In this paper, we study the existence of positive solutions to a semilinear nonlocal elliptic problem with the fractional α-Laplacian on Rn, 0 < α < n. We show that the problem has infinitely many positive solutions in $ {C^\tau}({R^n})\bigcap H_{loc}^{\alpha /2}({R^n}) $. Moreover, each of these solutions tends to some positive constant limit at infinity. We can extend our previous result about sub-elliptic problem to the nonlocal problem on Rn. We also show for α ∊ (0, 2) that in some cases, by the use of Hardy’s inequality, there is a nontrivial non-negative $ H_{loc}^{\alpha /2}({R^n}) $ weak solution to the problem

We present some comparison results for solutions to certain non-local elliptic and parabolic problems that involve the fractional Laplacian operator and mixed boundary conditions, given by a zero Dirichlet datum on part of the complementary of the domain and zero Neumann data on the rest. These results represent a non-local generalization of a Hopf's lemma for elliptic and parabolic problems with mixed conditions. In particular we prove the non-local version of the results obtained by Dávila and Dávila and Dupaigne for the classical case s = 1 in [23, 24] respectively.

We study the mechanism of proving non-collapsing in the context of extrinsic curvature flows via the maximum principle in combination with a suitable two-point function in homogeneity greater than one. Our paper serves as the first step in this direction and we consider the case of a curve which is C2-close to a circle initially and which flows by a power greater than one of the curvature along its normal vector.

We give a unified approach to strong maximum principles for a large class of nonlocal operators of order s ∈ (0, 1) that includes the Dirichlet, the Neumann Restricted (or Regional) and the Neumann Semirestricted Laplacians.

In this paper, we study the fractional Dirichlet problem with the homogeneous exterior data posed on a bounded domain with Lipschitz continuous boundary. Under an extra assumption on the domain, slightly weaker than the exterior ball condition, we are able to prove existence and uniqueness of solutions which are Hölder continuous on the boundary. In proving this result, we use appropriate barrier functions obtained by an approximation procedure based on a suitable family of zero-th order problems. This procedure, in turn, allows us to obtain an approximation scheme for the Dirichlet problem through an equicontinuous family of solutions of the approximating zero-th order problems on ${\bar \Omega}$. Both results are extended to an ample class of fully non-linear operators.

In this work, we present and discuss some modifications, in the form of two-sided estimation (and also for arbitrary source functions instead of usual sign-conditions), of continuous and discrete maximum principles for the reactiondiffusion problems solved by the finite element and finite difference methods.

We deduce maximum principles for fourth-, sixth- and eighth-order elliptic equations by modifying an auxiliary function introduced by Payne (J. Analyse Math. 30 (1976), 421–433). Integral bounds on various gradients of the solutions of these equations are obtained.

Maximum principles for subharmonic functions in the framework of quasi-regular local semi-Dirichlet forms admitting lower bounds are presented. As applications, we give weak and strong maximum principles for (local) subsolutions of a second order elliptic differential operator on the domain of Euclidean space under conditions on coefficients, which partially generalize the results by Stampacchia.

The aim of this article is to prove a symmetry result for several overdetermined boundary value problems. For the two first problems, our method combines the maximum principle with the monotonicity of the mean curvature. For the others, we use essentially the compatibility condition of the Neumann problem.
