As battery capacities become suitable for the mass market, there is an increasing demand on technologies to charge electric vehicles. Wireless charging is regarded as the most promising technique for automatic and convenient charging. Especially in publicly accessible parking spaces, foreign objects are able to enter the large air gap between the charging coils easily. Since the evoked magnetic field does not meet regulations, wireless charging systems are demanded to take further precautions related to the protection of endangered objects. Thus, additional sensors are required to protect primarily living objects by preventing them from being exposed to the magnetic field. In this paper, we propose a new approach for monitoring the air gap under the vehicle underbody using an automotive radar sensor on the vehicle side. The concept feasibility is evaluated with the help of a prototypical implementation. Further, two-dimensional signal processing techniques are applied to meet the requirements of inductive charging systems. Consequently, this paper provides measurement data for relevant use cases frequently discussed in the community of inductive charging.

The problem of acoustic noise is becoming increasingly serious with the growing use of industrial and medical equipment, appliances, and consumer electronics. Active noise control (ANC), based on the principle of superposition, was developed in the early 20th century to help reduce noise. However, ANC is still not widely used owing to the effectiveness of control algorithms, and to the physical and economical constraints of practical applications. In this paper, we briefly introduce some fundamental ANC algorithms and theoretical analyses, and focus on recent advances on signal processing algorithms, implementation techniques, challenges for innovative applications, and open issues for further research and development of ANC systems.

We present a digital sampling algorithm that uses two high resolution integratingvoltmeters that are synchronized by a phase-lock loop clock to accurately measure theactive and apparent power parameters for sinusoidal power measurements. The developedsystem provides high precision measurements of the root mean square, phase and the complexvoltage ratio of the ac signal with sophisticated algorithm which process the data infrequency domain. The system was designed to be used at the Korea Research Institute ofStandards and Science as reference power standard for electrical power calibrations. Thedetail uncertainty calculations have shown that the accuracy of the measurements werebetter than 4 μW/VA (for k = 1) and the level ofuncertainty was valid for the power factor range 0 ~ 1 for both lead and lag conditions.The system is fully automated and allows power measurements and calibration of highprecision wattmeters and power calibrators at the main power frequencies of 50 and 60Hz.

Automation of heavy construction machinery needs sensors that can detect each position under severe construction fields. Motivated by this need a hydraulic cylinder equipped with Hall sensors of Ga-As type has been developed. However, this sensor device has some problems associated with incorrect detection of positions owing to the existence of some magnetic slope and electric noises. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a digital stroke sensing cylinder enhanced by digital signal processing. An apparatus of two hydraulic systems coupled with each other is installed in an experimental setup to evaluate the performance of the developed digital stroke sensing cylinder. In order to control the position of a cylinder rod, a PWM method is used. Evaluation of the performance is carried out under artificial disturbances such as an impulse, addition of some magnetic slope, and additional noises.

This paper presents an investigation into the utilisation of sequential and parallel processing techniques for the real-time simulation of a flexible manipulator system. A finite dimensional simulation of the system is developed using a finite difference approximation to the governing dynamic equation of the manipulator. The developed algorithm is implemented on a number of uni-processor and multi-processor, homogeneous and heterogeneous, parallel architectures. A comparison of the results of these implementations is made and discussed, on the basis of real-time processing requirements in the simulation and control of flexible manipulator systems.
