The regional climate correlation within the Northern Hemisphere in the cold/dry mid-Younger Dryas event (YD) remains elusive. A key to unraveling this issue is sufficient knowledge of the detailed climate variability at the low latitudes. Here we present a high-resolution (3-yr) δ18O record of an annually laminated stalagmite from central China that reveals a detailed Asian monsoon (AM) history from 13.36 to 10.99 ka. The YD in this record is expressed as three phases, characterized by gradual onsets but rapid ends. During the mid-YD, the AM variability exhibited an increasing trend superimposed by three centennial oscillations, well-correlated to changes in Greenland temperatures. These warming/wetting fluctuations show a periodicity of ~ 200 yr, generally in agreement with centennial changes in cosmogenic nuclides indicated by the 10Be flux from the Greenland ice. This relationship implies that centennial-scale climate changes during the mid-YD are probably caused by solar output and rapidly transported over broad regions through atmosphere reorganization.

We prove a Torelli theorem for the moduli space of semistable parabolic Higgs bundles over a smooth complex projective algebraic curve under the assumption that the parabolic weight systemis generic. When the genus is at least two, using this result we also prove a Torelli theoremfor the moduli space of semistable parabolic bundles of rank at least two with generic parabolic weights. The key input in the proofs is a method of J.C. Hurtubise.

Keyword analysis has been used to investigate properties of style and genre, as a tool in discourse analysis, and as a method of identifying differences between the speech of distinct social groups. It has often been criticised as a blunt tool which can exaggerate what differences are present and fails to distinguish between quite distinct phenomena. However, it remains a very powerful tool for wide analysis of systematic differences between corpora when used with sufficient scepticism. This paper uses keyword analysis to examine differences between the speech of male and female characters in the Íslendingasögur, narrative prose texts composed in Iceland in the 13th and 14th centuries. This dataset is of particular interest because such representations of speech are the only window on the language of social groups who were not involved in text production in medieval societies. It aims to demonstrate a rigorous application of keyword analysis, exemplifying what it can and, crucially, what it cannot show.

This paper examines the development of the legal framework regarding fiduciary duties of directors in China. The concept of fiduciary duty was introduced by the 2005 revisions to China's Corporate Law. The implementation of fiduciary duties in China has encountered considerable obstacles because of the inherent weakness of the legal system. The legal texts are simple, vague and rigid. In the enforcement process, formalised judgments have placed limitations on precedent creation, thus reducing the deterrent effect, and the judicial system has shown reluctance to intervene in matters related to directors' duties in listed companies. There have been improvements, however. In a limited number of judicial decisions, courts have attempted to more clearly define the meaning of directors' fiduciary duties. In the penalty decisions of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), the duties of directors have been interpreted in a more sophisticated manner.

Environmental, concerns regarding reducing CO2 emissions and the drive of having better fuel economy have already enthused the car manufacturer to use the weight materials having better mechanical properties. Automotive industry has shown a great interest in Dual Phase steels due to the possibility of reducing weight of vehicles and increasing the passenger safety at a very competitive cost. Automotive applications unavoidably entail welding and joining in the manufacturing process and the fatigue resistance of welded joints due to the integrity and safety requirements. The variation of welding parameters (voltage, current and speed of welding) affects weld performance, mechanical, and metallurgical properties.

The CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) braze welding is a relatively new technology that partially decouples the arc electrical transients from the filler wire feed rate. It allows reducing the heat required for welding and permits higher joining speeds.

The aim of this work is to study the interfacial microstructures and intermetallic compounds produced by cold metal transfer welding of two plates of galvanized DP600 dual phase steel with CuSi3 as filler metal. The study was performed by applying a CMT braze welding with three different joining speeds. The welded microstructures and microhardness were determined and related to the welding process conditions.

A small HAZ, constituted by martensite, bainite and coarse ferrite grains, has been highlighted. Furthermore, an intermetallic Fe-Si-Cu compound layer formed at the interface between steel and filler metal. The joining speed sways the size of ZTA since the heat input Q affects the phase transformation in the weld and heat affected zone

This parameter also affects the thickness of the compound layer and the size of precipitates in the filler metal, likewise the mechanical characteristics. The fracture starts at the interface steel-copper where intermetallic compounds formed.

Ribbons of the Ni-44.8wt%Ti shape memory alloy are prepared through the melt spinning technique. The study is focused on investigating the effect of the rapid solidification and grain size at characteristic start martensitic (Ms), final martensitic (Mf), start austenite (As) and final austenite (Af) transformation temperatures. Changes on martensitic transformation temperatures in Ti45Ni55 melt spun ribbons are observed as grain size is reduced. Results of optical microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) are used to associate grain size with transformation temperatures.

Lead is an engineering material used mainly in the manufacturing of lead-acid batteries for the automotive industry. Lead recovery from exhausted batteries is carried out by the pyrometallurgical route by injecting sulfur the powder reagent through a lance into the lead bath. In this work a mathematical simulation was carried out on the copper drossing process with the software COMSOL 3.4. A kinetic study of the injection process of the lance-kettle system was carried out. The copper concentration profiles were obtained according with the injection rate of the particles. The best conditions for the copper drossing process were an injection rate of 3.31 m/s at 380°C. The modeling results were validated with experimental results obtaining good agreement.

This article presents an analysis of the heat generated by welding two different metals by friction. The welded samples were a DP600 steel and aluminum 6063. To perform this analysis it study the heat conducted in this system using Fourier’s Law and respective specific heat of each metal. We analyzed the integral equations that make up the model and the heat flow analysis to predict the optimal combination of alloys, in an ideal process.
