The paper addresses a multi-item, multi-plant lot-sizing problem with transfer costs andcapacity constraints. The problem is reformulated according to a multi-commodity flowformalism, and decomposed, through Lagrangean relaxation, into a master facility locationproblem and a slave minimal cost multi-commodity flow problem. The decomposition frameworkgives rise in a natural way to designing a Lagrangean based heuristic. Numericalexperiments showing the efficiency of the proposed approach are reported.

We address a multi-item capacitated lot-sizing problem with setup times that arises in real-world production planning contexts. Demand cannot be backlogged, but can be totally or partially lost. Safety stock is an objective to reach rather than an industrial constraint to respect. The problem is NP-hard. We propose mixed integer programming heuristics based on a planning horizon decomposition strategy to find a feasible solution. The planning horizon is partitioned into several sub-horizons over which a freezing or a relaxation strategy is applied. Some experimental results showing the effectiveness of the approach on real-world instances are presented. A sensitivity analysis on the parameters of the heuristics is reported.

Pour établir des plans de production et d'approvisionnements, une entreprise utilise un système de prévisions. Celui-ci est constitué d'une méthode de prévision de la demande et d'une méthode de lot-sizing permettant l'obtention de plans prévisionnels. Nous proposons une démarche permettant d'évaluer la fiabilité des prévisions fournies par un tel système. Cette analyse se base sur l'étude de l'impact des aléas de la demande sur les coûts induits par les plans prévisionnels. Nous avons appliqué ce protocole à un système de prévisions constitué du lissage exponentiel et de la méthode de Florian et Klein [5]. Dans les conditions expérimentales considérées, ce système de prévision fournit des informations fiables.
