As digitalization progresses, the development and integration of sensory functions in technical systems become increasingly important. Managing uncertainty, especially in the early phase of this process, is crucial to ensure the reliability of the data provided. Therefore, a methodical framework for the identification, analysis and consideration of uncertainty was presented in prior works. In this contribution, the effectivity of the framework is evaluated by applying it to a sensory function for rotational speed and offset measurement of a disk pack coupling using sensor integrating bolts.

Despite a large body of research on the effects of widowhood on health, little is known about whether spousal loss is related to functional impairment in widowed persons. This study examines the trajectories of functional impairment (sensory and masticatory functions) before and after spousal loss. This study also investigates whether the temporal changes in functional impairment of widowed people are gendered. Using data from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing over seven waves (42,967 person-observations), this study estimated fixed effects regression models to account for unobserved individual-level heterogeneity. Gender-stratified fixed effects regression models were used to determine whether changes in functional impairment associated with spousal loss differ by gender. The results of this study indicated that the vision of widowed people began to decrease within the first year following spousal loss and persisted through the fourth and subsequent years. By contrast, mastication deterioration occurred only among widowers. Masticatory impairment began during the first year of spousal loss and lasted the entire survey period. No statistically significant reduction in hearing loss was found for both widowers and widows. The results of this study suggest that spousal loss has a long-term effect on functional impairment, particularly in vision and masticatory functions. This study also documents gender heterogeneity in the trajectories of functional impairment before and after spousal loss. Vision impairment was found to be universal among widowers and widows, whereas masticatory impairment was significant only among widows. To address the physical and psychological vulnerability of widowed people, policies should be developed early in the process of adjusting to widowhood.

When integrating sensing machine elements for in-situ measurements in technical systems, special attention must be paid to uncertainty to ensure the reliability of the provided information. Therefore, a methodical framework for the identification, analysis and consideration of uncertainty was already developed in prior research, which still offers room for improvement regarding the included methods and tools. Therefore, in this contribution, the initially proposed methods and tools are adapted and extended to enhance their efficiency and applicability and to reduce their error proneness in order to increase the acceptance of the framework in practice. First, the identification of uncertainty is improved by means of an extended effect graph for an automated identification of disturbance factor induced data and model uncertainty. Second, the significance of the subsequent evaluation of uncertainty is enhanced by replacing the initially proposed local sensitivity analysis with a global sensitivity analysis. Finally, a flowchart is proposed that supports the identification of applicable and promising strategies for the development of measures to consider critical disturbance factor induced uncertainty.

Substance P immunoreactivity (SP-IR) was detected in the nervous system of the gull-tapeworm Diphyllobothrium dendriticum. The distribution of the SP-IR neurons in the plerocercoid differs from that of other peptidergic and aminergic neurons in the worm. As well as occurring in the ganglionic commissure and along the two main nerve cords, SP-IR neurons are located laterally to the main nerve cords but not dorsally or ventrally. The SP-IR neurons have projections extending to the surface. Bipolar SP-IR neurons with processes to the surface also occur in the tip of the scolex. A sensory function for the SP-IR neurons is suggested.
