The Archives of James Boswell, now in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale University, form one of the most important collections of eighteenth-century personal papers known to exist. The Yale Editions of the Private Papers of James Boswell were established in 1949 to publish the papers in two separate editions, a Trade series edited for a general readership (completed in 1989) and a comprehensively annotated Research Edition designed for a scholarly readership.
