This chapter sums up the main thesis and findings of the book. It points to four key factors as having resulted in particular revolutionary outcomes. Broadly, these factors can be divided into institutional dynamics, leadership decisions, the international context, and economic issues. The chapter also examines the role of competitive authoritarian systems in undermining the possibility of revolutions.
