Summary

In Part 1, we will consider a number of innovations, which I loosely classify as new “genres” or types of texts. Chapter 4 is a sort of bridge with the introductory chapters. It deals with more traditionally “linguistic” topics, such as internet slang and the ways in which humor and laughter are marked. The other chapters are more properly innovative genres: the compilation, the spoiler alert, new cartoon genres, satirical news and perhaps the most innovative new genre, the humorous currencies.
