Summary
This chapter introduces and explores the tenets of two-dimensionalism. It defends some central assumptions underlying it, distinguishes and refutes the various existing interpretations of the framework (pragmatic, semantic, epistemic, metasemantic), and argues in favour of a new interpretation, called metasyntactic, according to which the epistemic puzzles result from an imperfection identification of words, viewed as external objects.
