[186] Convocatio annoprimo Elizabeth, anno Domini 1558, vicesimo quarto die lanuarii. [187] Convocatio per breve Elizabeth reginae etc., sede archiepiscopali vacante, per decanum et capitulum Cantuariensem, vicesimo quarto lanuarii 1558, ubi in brevi conceditur ut convocatio fiat in templo Divi Pauli vel alibi, etc.

Quo die, episcopus Londoniensis, cum episcopis Wigorniensi, Coventrensi et Lichfieldensi, domum capitularem Divi Pauli intrantibus ac more solito residentibus, Henricus Cole legum doctor, vicarius generalis decani et capituli Cantuariensis, nomine eorum praesentavit praedictis episcopis literas commissionales decano et capitulo Cantuariensi, cuius tenor sequitur.

Quibus lectis, praedicti episcopi acceptarunt onus commissionis in se. Deinde episcopus Londoniensis exhibuit certificatorium et illic inseritur tenor mandati cum brevi reginae etc. Quibus lectis, episcopus Londoniensis commissarius etc., continuavit usque in diem Veneris proximum, vicesimum septimum lanuarii.

Quo die, episcopus Londoniensis commissarius, cum Iohanne Wintoniensi, Richardo Wigorniensi, Radulfo Coventrensi et Lichfieldensi, Iohanne abbate Westmonasterii, una cum clero convenerunt in choro Divi Pauli, ubi missa de Spiritu Sancto finita, intrarunt domum capitularem et praeconizatione facta et [ 188] inferiore domo vocata, exposuit episcopus ibidem causam convocationis, et quod non futura sit contio pro more, quia sedes episcopatus destituta existit et quia conciliarii reginae in mandatis dedere ne contiones in eadem ecclesia fierent, donee de beneplacito regio constaret. Et declaravit quod decanus et capitulum interesse nequeant, et commiserunt vices suas praedictis episcopis etc. Deinde episcopus Londoniensis monuit ut eligerent sibi prolocutorem et electum praesentarent die Veneris proximo, inter nonam et decimam horas, si parliamentum tune non habeatur, alioquin ad horam tertiam post meridiem, et continuavit ad diem Veneris proximum etc.

Quo die, episcopus Londoniensis etc., iussit accersiri praelatos inferioris domus. Et ibidem Henricus Cole, decanus Pauli et Iohannes Harpsfield, archidiaconus London, praesentaverunt oratione Latina Nicholaum Harpsfield prolocutorem, qui orationem fecit. Et admissus, tandem episcopus Londoniensis continuavit usque ad Veneris proximum etc., si parliamentum non habeatur; alioquin inter horas secundam post meridiem etc.
