About Tanabe Chikukuunsai IV
The fourth generation of a renowned family of Japanese bamboo artists, Tanabe Chikukuunsai IV learned the techniques of bamboo weaving from his father and grandfather and the spirit of his art from his mother. He reshapes the bamboo of the traditional design in the lower part of the basket (representing the past) into a new sculpture that emerges in the upper part of the basket, representing novelty (and thereby the future).
