Cullesden R. al. Coulsdon. St John Evangelist. Ks books 21-16-5½. Herring 172£ (So in Disp 1751). 210£. Now 230 .
A retired Place. Only Farmers: not numerous. 5 miles from Croydon, 7 from Ewel. Ho. stands on much Ground. Great part of it ruinous: but might be made comfortable, by lessening the old part, & adding to the new, which a Lady, who farmed the Rectory, is said to have built lately. Glebe, 80 Acres, inclosed, near the House, let at 45£ a Year, & the rest of the parsonage at 185£, all to one man. Probably both might be raised. No chapel. Two Sermons on Sundays. This in writing from Dr Halifax1, vicar of Ewell, June 1761.
The Advowson was granted by the Crown to the ABP in Exchange 31 Aug 1 Ed. 6. See Chart. Misc. vol 13, N° 21. Concerning Presentations by others, & the Judgmt in favour of the ABP, see there N° 66.
Ld Folkestone saith the Chancel is in a very bad Condition. Mr Herring saith the Church & that are in good Repair 1764. 1765 He hath orderd Repairs, wch two Days will complete, & whitewashing. Ch Wns have promised to keep the Church walls dry.
