In this article, by applying the Stokes projection and an orthogonal projection with respect to curl and div operators, some new error estimates of finite element method (FEM) for the stationary incompressible magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) are obtained. To our knowledge, it is the first time to establish the error bounds which are explicitly dependent on the Reynolds numbers, coupling number and mesh size. On the other hand, The uniform stability and convergence of an Oseen type finite element iterative method for MHD with respect to high hydrodynamic Reynolds number Re and magnetic Reynolds number Rm, or small δ=1–σ with

(C0, C1 are constants depending only on Ω and F is related to the source terms of equations) are analyzed under the condition that . Finally, some numerical tests are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of this algorithm.

In the paper, a new time second-order mass-conserved implicit/explicit domain decomposition method (DDM) for the diffusion equations is proposed. In the scheme, firstly, we calculate the interface fluxes of sub-domains from the obtained solutions and fluxes at the previous time level, for which we apply high-order Taylor’s expansion and transfer the time derivatives to spatial derivatives to improve the accuracy. Secondly, the interior solutions and fluxes in sub-domains are computed by the implicit scheme and using the relations between solutions and fluxes, without any correction step. The mass conservation is proved and the convergence order of the numerical solutions is proved to be second-order in both time and space steps. The super-convergence of numerical fluxes is also proved to be second-order in both time and space steps. The scheme is stable under the stable condition r≤3/5. The important feature is that the proposed domain decomposition scheme is mass-conserved and is of second order convergence in time. Numerical experiments confirm the theoretical results.

In this paper, we first discuss the well-posedness of linearizing equations, and then study the stability and unstability of the 3-D compressible Euler Equation, by analysing the existence of saddle point. In addition, we give the existence of local solutions of the compressible Euler equation.

In this paper, a double-passage shape correction (DPSC) method is presented for simulation of unsteady flows around vibrating blades and aeroelastic prediction. Based on the idea of phase-lagged boundary conditions, the shape correction method was proposed aimed at efficiently dealing with unsteady flow problems in turbomachinery. However, the original single-passage shape correction (SPSC) may show the disadvantage of slow convergence of unsteady solutions and even produce nonphysical oscillation. The reason is found to be related with the disturbances on the circumferential boundaries that can not be damped by numerical schemes. To overcome these difficulties, the DPSC method is adopted here, in which the Fourier coefficients are computed from flow variables at implicit boundaries instead of circumferential boundaries in the SPSC method. This treatment actually reduces the interaction between the calculation of Fourier coefficients and the update of flow variables. Therefore a faster convergence speed could be achieved and also the solution stability is improved. The present method is developed to be suitable for viscous and turbulent flows. And for real three-dimensional (3D) problems, the rotating effects are also considered. For validation, a 2D oscillating turbine cascade, a 3D oscillating flat plate cascade and a 3D practical transonic fan rotor are investigated. Comparisons with experimental data or other solutions and relevant discussions are presented in detail. Numerical results show that the solution accuracy of DPSC method is favorable and at least comparable to the SPSC method. However, fewer iteration cycles are needed to get a converged and stable unsteady solution, which greatly improves the computational efficiency.

An inverse problem of determining unknown source parameter in a parabolic equation is considered. The variational iteration method (VIM) is presented to solve inverse problems. The solution gives good approximations by VIM. A numerical example shows that the VIM works effectively for an inverse problem.

In this paper, we introduce the Hamiltonian boundary value method (HBVM) to solve nonlinear Hamiltonian PDEs. We use the idea of Fourier pseudospectral method in spatial direction, which leads to the finite-dimensional Hamiltonian system. The HBVM, which can preserve the Hamiltonian effectively, is applied in time direction. Then the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation and the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation are taken as examples to show the validity of the proposed method. Numerical results confirm that the proposed method can simulate the propagation and collision of different solitons well. Meanwhile the corresponding errors in Hamiltonian and other intrinsic invariants are presented to show the good preservation property of the proposed method during long-time numerical calculation.

In this paper, a hybrid dynamic mesh generation method for multi-block structured grid is presented based on inverse distance weighting (IDW) interpolation and transfinite interpolation (TFI). The major advantage of the algorithm is that it maintains the effectiveness of TFI, while possessing the ability to deal with multi-block structured grid from the IDW method. In this approach, dynamic mesh generation is made in two steps. At first, all domain vertexes with known deformation are selected as sample points and IDW interpolation is applied to get the grid deformation on domain edges. Then, an arc-length-based TFI is employed to efficiently calculate the grid deformation on block faces and inside each block. The present approach can be well applied to both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) problems. The proposed method has been well-validated by several test cases. Numerical results show that dynamic meshes with high quality can be generated in an accurate and efficient manner.

In this paper, the problem of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) boundary layer flow of nanofluid with heat and mass transfer through a porous media in the presence of thermal radiation, viscous dissipation and chemical reaction is studied. Three types of nanofluids, namely Copper (Cu)-water, Alumina (Al 2 O 3)-water and Titanium Oxide (TiO 2)-water are considered. The governing set of partial differential equations of the problem is reduced into the coupled nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) by means of similarity transformations. Finite element solution of the resulting system of nonlinear differential equations is obtained using continuous Galerkin-Petrov discretization together with the well-known shooting technique. The obtained results are validated using MATLAB “bvp4c” function and with the existing results in the literature. Numerical results for the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are obtained and the impact of various physical parameters such as the magnetic parameter M, solid volume fraction of nanoparticles 𝜙 and type of nanofluid on the flow is discussed. The results obtained in this study confirm the idea that the finite element method (FEM) is a powerful mathematical technique which can be applied to a large class of linear and nonlinear problems arising in different fields of science and engineering.

We consider a mathematical model which describes the quasi-static evolution of a thermo-viscoelastic linear body with taking into account the effects of internal forces which generate a non linear viscous dissipative function. We derive a variational formulation of the system of equilibrium equation and energy equation. An existence result of weak solutions was obtained in an appropriate function space.

In this paper, we analyse the convergence rates of several different predictor-corrector iterations for computing the minimal positive solution of the nonsymmetric algebraic Riccati equation arising in transport theory. We have shown theoretically that the new predictor-corrector iteration given in [Numer. Linear Algebra Appl., 21 (2014), pp. 761–780] will converge no faster than the simple predictor-corrector iteration and the nonlinear block Jacobi predictor-corrector iteration. Moreover the last two have the same asymptotic convergence rate with the nonlinear block Gauss-Seidel iteration given in [SIAM J. Sci. Comput., 30 (2008), pp. 804–818]. Preliminary numerical experiments have been reported for the validation of the developed comparison theory.

The nonlinear Dirac equation is an important model in quantum physics with a set of conservation laws and a multi-symplectic formulation. In this paper, we propose energy-preserving and multi-symplectic wavelet algorithms for this model. Meanwhile, we evidently improve the efficiency of these algorithms in computations via splitting technique and explicit strategy. Numerical experiments are conducted during long-term simulations to show the excellent performances of the proposed algorithms and verify our theoretical analysis.

In this paper the space variable-order fractional Schrödinger equation (VOFSE) is studied numerically, where the variable-order fractional derivative is described here in the sense of the quantum Riesz-Feller definition. The proposed numerical method is the weighted average non-standard finite difference method (WANSFDM). Special attention is given to study the stability analysis and the convergence of the proposed method. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to show that this method is reliable and computationally efficient.

The finite difference (FD) method is popular in the computational fluid dynamics and widely used in various flow simulations. Most of the FD schemes are developed on the uniform Cartesian grids; however, the use of nonuniform or curvilinear grids is inevitable for adapting to the complex configurations and the coordinate transformation is usually adopted. Therefore the question that whether the characteristics of the numerical schemes evaluated on the uniform grids can be preserved on the nonuniform grids arises, which is seldom discussed. Based on the one-dimensional wave equation, this paper systematically studies the characteristics of the high-order FD schemes on nonuniform grids, including the order of accuracy, resolution characteristics and the numerical stability. Especially, the Fourier analysis involving the metrics is presented for the first time and the relation between the resolution of numerical schemes and the stretching ratio of grids is discussed. Analysis shows that for smooth varying grids, these characteristics can be generally preserved after the coordinate transformation. Numerical tests also validate our conclusions.
