HiA 52nd Volume CFP
29 Jan 2025 to 03 Mar 2025

Having gathered at ASA2024 in Chicago to explore the theme of Global Africa, we would like to highlight the theme of New Mobilities and Movements for our final issue as the editorial team for History in Africa.

The history of Africa has always been shaped by the physical and social mobility of people and ideas. With the necessary focus on the perils and trauma of migration in Africa’s past and present, it is often difficult to find space to discuss mobility as a pleasure, privilege, and adventure.

How do methods, theories, and source materials help us understand the complexities of motion? Rather than think about the process of history as looking backward or forward, we encourage thinking about what historiographies in and of motion can reveal.

HiA focuses on sources, methods, and scholarly debates in African history, but in what ways has the field been changing in recent decades?

With that in mind, we are particularly interested in submissions that:

– Engage source materials – written, oral, material, digital – in different ways

– Rethink historical methodologies – how we collect, analyze, and write

– Transform our scholarly debates rather than rehash them

– Propose new approaches to our work as historians in today’s world

Single-author and collaborative scholarship are welcomed. We are especially eager to read manuscripts by authors based on the African continent.

Review the journal style guide and submit by March 3.
