We construct a cycle in higher Hochschild homology associated to the two-dimensional torus which represents 2-holonomy of a nonabelian gerbe in the same way as the ordinary holonomy of a principal G-bundle gives rise to a cycle in ordinary Hochschild homology. This is done using the connection 1-form of Baez–Schreiber. A crucial ingredient in our work is the possibility to arrange that in the structure crossed module $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}:\mathfrak{h}\rightarrow \mathfrak{g}$ of the principal 2-bundle, the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{h}$ is abelian, up to equivalence of crossed modules.

We first introduce the weighted averaged projection sequence in $\text{CAT}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D705})$ spaces and then we establish some inequalities for the weighted averaged projection sequence. Using the inequalities, we prove the asymptotic regularity and the $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E5}$-convergence of the weighted averaged projection sequence. Furthermore, we prove the strong convergence of the sequence under certain regularity or compactness conditions on $\text{CAT}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D705})$ spaces.

These notes provide a concise introduction to the representation theory of reductive algebraic groups in positive characteristic, with an emphasis on Lusztig's character formula and geometric representation theory. They are based on the first author's notes from a lecture series delivered by the second author at the Simons Centre for Geometry and Physics in August 2019. We intend them to complement more detailed treatments.

We give a list of statements on the geometry of elliptic threefolds phrased only in the language of topology and homological algebra. Using only notions from topology and homological algebra, we recover existing results and prove new results on torsion pairs in the category of coherent sheaves on an elliptic threefold.

We investigate the assumptions under which a subclass of flat quasicoherent sheaves on a quasicompact and semiseparated scheme allows us to ‘mock’ the homotopy category of projective modules. Our methods are based on module-theoretic properties of the subclass of flat modules involved as well as their behaviour with respect to Zariski localizations. As a consequence we get that, for such schemes, the derived category of flat quasicoherent sheaves is equivalent to the derived category of very flat quasicoherent sheaves. If, in addition, the scheme satisfies the resolution property then both derived categories are equivalent to the derived category of infinite-dimensional vector bundles. The equivalences are inferred from a Quillen equivalence between the corresponding models.

In this paper, we study a family of binomial ideals defining monomial curves in the n-dimensional affine space determined by n hypersurfaces of the form $x_i^{c_i} - x_1^{u_{i1}} \cdots x_n^{u_{1n}}$ in $\Bbbk [x_1, \ldots , x_n]$ with $u_{ii} = 0, \ i\in \{ 1, \ldots , n\}$ . We prove that the monomial curves in that family are set-theoretic complete intersections. Moreover, if the monomial curve is irreducible, we compute some invariants such as genus, type and Frobenius number of the corresponding numerical semigroup. We also describe a method to produce set-theoretic complete intersection semigroup ideals of arbitrary large height.

We prove that among all compact homogeneous spaces for an effective transitive action of a Lie group whose Levi subgroup has no compact simple factors, the seven-dimensional flat torus is the only one that admits an invariant torsion-free $\text{G}_{2(2)}$-structure.

Let ${\mathcal{A}}$ be a semisimple Banach algebra with minimal left ideals and $\text{soc}({\mathcal{A}})$ be the socle of ${\mathcal{A}}$. We prove that if $\text{soc}({\mathcal{A}})$ is an essential ideal of ${\mathcal{A}}$, then every 2-local derivation on ${\mathcal{A}}$ is a derivation. As applications of this result, we can easily show that every 2-local derivation on some algebras, such as semisimple modular annihilator Banach algebras, strongly double triangle subspace lattice algebras and ${\mathcal{J}}$-subspace lattice algebras, is a derivation.

The aim of this paper is to study the heat kernel and the jump kernel of the Dirichlet form associated to the ultrametric Cantor set $\unicode[STIX]{x2202}{\mathcal{B}}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6EC}}$ that is the infinite path space of the stationary $k$-Bratteli diagram ${\mathcal{B}}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6EC}}$, where $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6EC}$ is a finite strongly connected $k$-graph. The Douglas–Rachford method is a splitting method frequently employed for finding zeros of sums of maximally monotone operators. When the operators in question are normal cone operators, the iterated process may be used to solve feasibility problems of the following form: Find $x\in \bigcap _{k=1}^{N}S_{k}$. The success of the method in the context of closed, convex, nonempty sets $S_{1},\ldots ,S_{N}$ is well known and understood from a theoretical standpoint. However, its performance in the nonconvex context is less well understood, yet it is surprisingly impressive. This was particularly compelling to Jonathan M. Borwein who, intrigued by Elser, Rankenburg and Thibault’s success in applying the method to solving sudoku puzzles, began an investigation of his own. We survey the current body of literature on the subject, and we summarize its history. We especially commemorate Professor Borwein’s celebrated contributions to the area.

As a continuation of previous work of the first author with Ranjbar [‘A variational inequality in complete CAT(0) spaces’, J. Fixed Point Theory Appl. 17 (2015), 557–574] on a special form of variational inequalities in Hadamard spaces, in this paper we study equilibrium problems in Hadamard spaces, which extend variational inequalities and many other problems in nonlinear analysis. In this paper, first we study the existence of solutions of equilibrium problems associated with pseudo-monotone bifunctions with suitable conditions on the bifunctions in Hadamard spaces. Then, to approximate an equilibrium point, we consider the proximal point algorithm for pseudo-monotone bifunctions. We prove existence of the sequence generated by the algorithm in several cases in Hadamard spaces. Next, we introduce the resolvent of a bifunction in Hadamard spaces. We prove convergence of the resolvent to an equilibrium point. We also prove $\triangle$-convergence of the sequence generated by the proximal point algorithm to an equilibrium point of the pseudo-monotone bifunction and also the strong convergence under additional assumptions on the bifunction. Finally, we study a regularization of Halpern type and prove the strong convergence of the generated sequence to an equilibrium point without any additional assumption on the pseudo-monotone bifunction. Some examples in fixed point theory and convex minimization are also presented.

We show a precise formula, in the form of a monomial, for certain families of parabolic Kazhdan–Lusztig polynomials of the symmetric group. The proof stems from results of Lapid–Mínguez on irreducibility of products in the Bernstein–Zelevinski ring. By quantizing those results into a statement on quantum groups and their canonical bases, we obtain identities of coefficients of certain transition matrices that relate Kazhdan–Lusztig polynomials to their parabolic analogues. This affirms some basic cases of conjectures raised recently by Lapid.

Our aim in this paper is to establish a generalization of Sobolev’s inequality for Riesz potentials $J_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}(\cdot )}^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70E}}f$ of functions $f$ in Musielak–Orlicz–Morrey spaces $L^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7},\unicode[STIX]{x1D705}}(X)$. As a corollary we obtain Sobolev’s inequality for double phase functionals with variable exponents.

Let M be a closed n-dimensional smooth Riemannian manifold, and let X be a $C^1$-vector field of $M.$ Let $\gamma $ be a hyperbolic closed orbit of $X.$ In this paper, we show that X has the $C^1$-stably shadowing property on the chain component $C_X(\gamma )$ if and only if $C_X(\gamma )$ is the hyperbolic homoclinic class.

Let $V$ be a hypersurface with an isolated singularity at the origin defined by the holomorphic function $f:(\mathbb{C}^{n},0)\rightarrow (\mathbb{C},0)$. The Yau algebra $L(V)$ is defined to be the Lie algebra of derivations of the moduli algebra $A(V):={\mathcal{O}}_{n}/(f,\unicode[STIX]{x2202}f/\unicode[STIX]{x2202}x_{1},\ldots ,\unicode[STIX]{x2202}f/\unicode[STIX]{x2202}x_{n})$, that is, $L(V)=\text{Der}(A(V),A(V))$. It is known that $L(V)$ is finite dimensional and its dimension $\unicode[STIX]{x1D706}(V)$ is called the Yau number. We introduce a new series of Lie algebras, that is, $k$th Yau algebras $L^{k}(V)$, $k\geq 0$, which are a generalization of the Yau algebra. The algebra $L^{k}(V)$ is defined to be the Lie algebra of derivations of the $k$th moduli algebra $A^{k}(V):={\mathcal{O}}_{n}/(f,m^{k}J(f)),k\geq 0$, that is, $L^{k}(V)=\text{Der}(A^{k}(V),A^{k}(V))$, where $m$ is the maximal ideal of ${\mathcal{O}}_{n}$. The $k$th Yau number is the dimension of $L^{k}(V)$, which we denote by $\unicode[STIX]{x1D706}^{k}(V)$. In particular, $L^{0}(V)$ is exactly the Yau algebra, that is, $L^{0}(V)=L(V),\unicode[STIX]{x1D706}^{0}(V)=\unicode[STIX]{x1D706}(V)$. These numbers $\unicode[STIX]{x1D706}^{k}(V)$ are new numerical analytic invariants of singularities. In this paper we formulate a conjecture that $\unicode[STIX]{x1D706}^{(k+1)}(V)>\unicode[STIX]{x1D706}^{k}(V),k\geq 0.$ We prove this conjecture for a large class of singularities.

Ihara et al. proved the derivation relation for multiple zeta values. The first-named author obtained its counterpart for finite multiple zeta values in ${\mathcal{A}}$. In this paper, we present its generalization in $\widehat{{\mathcal{A}}}$.

This paper is devoted to the study of the normal (tangential) regularity of a closed set and the subdifferential (directional) regularity of its distance function in the context of Riemannian manifolds. The Clarke, Fréchet and proximal subdifferentials of the distance function from a closed subset in a Riemannian manifold are represented by corresponding normal cones of the set.

For every n, we evaluate the smallest k such that the congruence inclusion $\alpha (\beta \circ _n \gamma ) \subseteq \alpha \beta \circ _{k} \alpha \gamma $ holds in a variety of reducts of lattices introduced by K. Baker. We also study varieties with a near-unanimity term and discuss identities dealing with reflexive and admissible relations.
