Πάντα έν καί πασıν χρıστος (Kol. iii. II) — diese Botschaft wird im Kolosserbrief als Antwort auf Fragen entfaltet, die die Gemeinde zutiefst beunruhigten. Lehrer waren gekommen, die eine φıλοσοφία (ii. 8) zu bringen vorgaben, die sie als geheime Offenbarung des göttlichen Seinsgrundes der Welt verstanden und den Christen anboten, um Schutz vor der bedrohenden Gewalt der στοıχεία του κοσμου (ii. 8, 20) und Erfüllung mit göttlicher Kraft zu vermitteln (ii. 9f.). Der ausgesprochen synkretistische Charakter dieser Lehre ist von M. Dibelius und G. Bornkamm überzeugend aufgewiesen worden und braucht hier nicht näher beschrieben zu werden: Sakramentale Weihen, die aus den Mysterienreligionen herrühren, gnostische Vorstellungen und jüdisch-gesetzliche Weisungen sind so verbunden worden, daß sie im Verein miteinander der Verehrung der Weltelemente Ausdruck verleihen und die Beachtung von Tabu-Vorschriften einschärfen, damit schädigende Einflüsse abgewehrt werden und die göttliche Erfüllung ungehindert sich voliziehen kann.

The textual origin of the O.T. citations in Hebrews has long been an enigma. From the time the texts of the two principal witnesses to the LXX, LXXA and LXXB, became available in the early part of the nineteenth century, it has been observed that the text of the citations in Hebrews does not exactly correspond to either. F. Bleek, who was evidently the first to make a systematic textual study of these citations, concluded that the author of Hebrews used a recension closely related to LXXA. Most commentators since have concluded that some text of the LXX was used, variously explaining variations from it as due to citation from memory, intentional adaptations by the author, and errors of transcription in his manuscript. Others have suggested that the citations were taken from a lost version of the Greek O.T. or from liturgical sources.

(8) Über die grundsätzlichen Probleme, die sich für die neutestamentliche Textkritik aus den neuen Papyri ergeben, wird zum Schiuβ dieser Betrachtungen ausführlich zu reden sein. Welche Bedeutung dabei dem 75 zukommt, ist im einleitenden Abschnitt I. dieser Serie (N. T. S. IX, 1963, 304 f.) bereits hervorgehoben worden. So versteht es sich, daβ der Behandlung von 66 in der letzten Fortsetzung sogleich die von 75, zu folgen hat, während 72 und 74 ebenso wie die Fragmente, mit welchen die dazwischen liegenden Nrrn. besetzt sind, zurückgestellt werden können. Dieses Verfahren wird nicht nur durch die Bedeutung von 75, sondern auch dadurch empfohlen, daβ von 75 bisher keine Gesamtkollation veröffentlicht ist (während sie z. B. für wesentliche Teile von 72 existiert). Lediglich C. Porter hat im Journal of Biblical Literature (81, 1962, 363–73) einen Anlauf dazu unternommen, indem er ‘Papyrus Bodmer XV (75) and the Text of Codex Vaticanus’ miteinander verglichen hat. Aber abgesehen von der Beschränkung auf das Johannesevangelium (die auch für andere Untersuchungen zu 75 gilt), ist eine solche Studie mehr für die Stellung von 75 in der Text-geschichte von Bedeutung als für einen Gebrauch des 75 in der praktischen Arbeit des Neutestamentlers, der für die seiner Arbeit zugrundeliegenden textkritischen Entscheidungen wissen möchte, und zwar ohne Faksimile- und Textausgabe der Papyrus jedes Mal zu Rate ziehen zu müssen, was dieser Papyrus tatsächlich liest und worin er sich von den modernen Textausgaben und den anderen Handschriften oder Handschriftengruppen unterscheidet.

Si nous énoncions notre sujet sous forme d'une question: l'évangile johannique connaît-il une histoire du salut, nous serions tentés, de prime abord, d'y donner une réponse négative. En effet, le quatrième évangile ne se distingue-t il pas des autres évangiles précisément par le fait que tout se passe, ici, en dehors d'une histoire ‘horizontale’? Ne s'agit-il pas d'un ‘nunc aeternum’, d'une irruption du ‘tout autre’ dans chaque instant, d'une histoire dont le symbole ne serait pas la ligne, mais le point? Le prologue de cet évangile ne place-t-il pas, à priori, la pensée johannique sur un plan opposé à celui de l'histoire du salut? L'affirmation concernant la relation entre Jésus et Jean-Baptiste à la fin de ce prologue: ‘celui qui vient après moi a été avant moi, car il a été le premier par rapport à moi’, ne prouve-t-elle pas que Jésus-Christ, pour cet évangéliste, signifie ‘fin de l'histoire’? La déclaration du Christ johannique au chap. viii. 58: ‘avant qu'Abraham ne füt, je suis’, ne confirme-t-elle pas que la perspective n'est plus celle de l'histoire du salut? D'autre part, la tension entre ‘ce qui est déjà accompli’ et ‘ce qui n'est pas encore achevé’, cette tension si caractéristique de toute la pensée du Nouveau Testament et qui marque une évolution temporelle, ne disparaît-elle pas dans notre évangile, puisque tout y est accompli en Christ? Le jugement qui a lieu déjà (chap. xii. 31, νυν κρίσıς έστίν), la résurrection déjà réalisée (chap. xi. 25), ne mettent-ils pas en évidence que l'eschatologie johannique n'est plus une eschatologie temporelle dans le sens d'une histoire du salut?

L'importance de Rom. v. 12 vient directement de son contenu religieux très riche, indirectement de l'utilisation capitale qu'en a faite la théologie chrétienne; il est naturel que son étude a été souvent reprise: une lecture critique visant à justifier avec précision les formules du verset, et tout particulièrement la fin de celui-ci, aboutira à la présentation d'une exégèse qui n'exclut pas la probabilité d'autres explications, et le champ restera libre pour une recherche ultérieure.

In a recent Short Study I suggested that St Paul was not discussing virginity in I Cor. vii but dealing with the subject of second marriages and, more specifically in υυ. 36 ff., with levirate marriage. The present article is an examination of early patristic exegesis of I Cor. vii to show that consecrated virginity was not a customary way of life in the most primitive Christian communities. I have given special attention to the Jewish background of Montanism and Tertullian's exegesis during his Montanist period which seems to provide the most substantial evidence that the recipients of St Paul's letter were not posing questions concerning celibacy and perhaps had no conception of this practice for women.

Luke x. 25–37 is variously interpreted and is usually attacked as clumsy and inharmonious. Luke's contrived contexts are so many that one suspects that the parable must be independent of its context. Yet about both much remains to be said. The formerly debated status of the Samaritan vis-à-vis Jews was clarified by Professor Joachim Jeremias in his Jerusalem zur Zeit Jesu,1 and other problems still demand attention.

In dem vieldiskutierten Problemkreis der ‘Menschensohn’-Bezeichnung wendet man dem johanneischen Gebrauch des Titels verhältnismäßig wenig Aufmerksarnkeit zu, und doch ist es auffällig, daß ihn das vierte Evangelium 13 Mal gebraucht und in theologisch bedeutsame Zusammenhänge hineinstellt. Wenn die joh. Logien wegen der Eigenart dieses Evangeliums sicherlich auch für die am stärksten bewegende Frage ausscheiden, ob Jesus selbst den Titel gebraucht und sein Selbstverständnis in ihn hineingelegt hat, so gewinnen sie doch für die in der Urkirche aufgenornrnene oder nach manchen Forschern erst aufgekommene Menschensohn-Theologie, ihre Lebensdauer und Fortentwicklung eine nicht unerhebliche Bedeutung. Hat der Evangelist diese Bezeichnung im Munde Jesu nur festgehalten, weil er darum durch die synoptische Tradition wußte, oder kam er auf andere Weise mit der oder einer Menschensohn-Theologie in Berührung, die er in seine Christologie einfügte? Aber was war das dann für eine Menschensohn Theologie, wo liegen ihre Wurzeln, wo ist die Kontaktstelle, an der sie der Evangelist vorfand, und was bewog ihn, sie für seine Christologie auszuwerten? Kombinierte der Evangelist vielleicht urchristlich-traditionelle Momente mit einer anderen Konzeption, sei es einer vorgefundenen oder einer eigenen? Gerade unter traditionsgeschichtlichem Aspekt verdient die Frage Beachtung und verheißt sie einen Einblick in die Entwicklung urkirch licher Christologie.

Après son séjour à Sychar de Samarie (Jean iv. 5), Jésus ‘partit de là pour la Galilée’ (iv. 43), nous dit l'évangéliste, qui explique alors: ‘car (γάρ) Jésus avait déclaré lui-même qu'un prophéte ne jouit d'aucun égard dans sa propre patrie (πατρí;ς)’ (iv. 44). Puis il enchaî;ne: ‘A son arrivée en Galilée, les Galiléens lui firent bon accueil: ils avaient vu tout ce qu'il avait fait à Jérusalem lors de la fête; car eux aussi étaient allés à la fête’ (iv. 45).

The problem raised by the use of food offered in sacrifice to idols, remote though it is from modern western Christianity, played a large part in Christian thought in and for some time after the New Testament period. The evidence for this statement, so far as the New Testament is concerned, is, briefly, as follows.

Source criticism in Acts has had a long and varied history. While one can hardly speak of a consensus of opinion on the question today, certain trends are evident. The present tendency is to study the smaller units of Acts, rather than to seek for continuous sources throughout the book. In this development can be seen the influence of M. Dibelius's 1923 essay on the ‘style criticism’ of Acts.

The first scholar to give information concerning the St Adalbert Codex was T. Trzciński, in his published catalogue of the manuscripts in the Chapter Library of Gniezno. On the basis of the details noted by Trzciński and probably on the basis of his own review of the manuscripts as well, W. Semkowicz published several palaeographical notes on the St Adalbert Codex (= AC) along with a photograph of p. 267 of the document. Apart from these summary notices, the codex in question has not been further studied.
