We show that any isometric immersion of a flat plane domain into ${\mathbb {R}}^3$ is developable provided it enjoys the little Hölder regularity $c^{1,2/3}$. In particular, isometric immersions of local $C^{1,\alpha }$ regularity with $\alpha >2/3$ belong to this class. The proof is based on the existence of a weak notion of second fundamental form for such immersions, the analysis of the Gauss–Codazzi–Mainardi equations in this weak setting, and a parallel result on the very weak solutions to the degenerate Monge–Ampère equation analysed in [M. Lewicka and M. R. Pakzad. Anal. PDE 10 (2017), 695–727.].
In this paper, we investigate the structure of certain solutions of the fully nonlinear Yamabe flow, which we call almost quotient Yamabe solitons as they extend quite naturally those already called quotient Yamabe solitons. We present sufficient conditions for a compact almost quotient Yamabe soliton to be either trivial or isometric with an Euclidean sphere. We also characterize noncompact almost gradient quotient Yamabe solitons satisfying certain conditions on both its Ricci tensor and potential function.
By using fixed point argument, we give a proof for the existence of singular rotationally symmetric steady and expanding gradient Ricci solitons in higher dimensions with metric $g=\frac {da^2}{h(a^2)}+a^2g_{S^n}$ for some function h where $g_{S^n}$ is the standard metric on the unit sphere $S^n$ in $\mathbb {R}^n$ for any $n\ge 2$. More precisely, for any $\lambda \ge 0$ and $c_0>0$, we prove that there exist infinitely many solutions ${h\in C^2((0,\infty );\mathbb {R}^+)}$ for the equation $2r^2h(r)h_{rr}(r)=(n-1)h(r)(h(r)-1)+rh_r(r)(rh_r(r)-\lambda r-(n-1))$, $h(r)>0$, in $(0,\infty )$ satisfying $\underset {\substack {r\to 0}}{\lim }\,r^{\sqrt {n}-1}h(r)=c_0$ and prove the higher-order asymptotic behavior of the global singular solutions near the origin. We also find conditions for the existence of unique global singular solution of such equation in terms of its asymptotic behavior near the origin.
We consider the broadest concept of the gradient Yamabe soliton, the conformal gradient soliton. In this paper, we elucidate the structure of complete gradient conformal solitons under some assumption, and provide some applications to gradient Yamabe solitons. These results enhance the understanding gained from previous research. Furthermore, we give an affirmative partial answer to the Yamabe soliton version of Perelman’s conjecture.
In this paper, we derive new differential Harnack estimates of Li–Yau type for positive smooth solutions to a class of nonlinear parabolic equations in the form
on smooth metric measure spaces where the metric and potential are time dependent and evolve under a $({\mathsf k},\, m)$-super Perelman–Ricci flow. A number of consequences, most notably, a parabolic Harnack inequality, a class of Hamilton type global curvature-free estimates and a general Liouville type theorem together with some consequences are established. Some special cases are presented to illustrate the strength of the results.
We compare two standard approaches to defining lower Ricci curvature bounds for Riemannian metrics of regularity below $C^2$. These are, on the one hand, the synthetic definition via weak displacement convexity of entropy functionals in the framework of optimal transport, and the distributional one based on non-negativity of the Ricci-tensor in the sense of Schwartz. It turns out that distributional bounds imply entropy bounds for metrics of class $C^1$ and that the converse holds for $C^{1,1}$-metrics under an additional convergence condition on regularizations of the metric.
In this short note, we deal with complete noncompact expanding and steady Ricci solitons of dimension $n\geq 3.$ More precisely, under an integrability assumption, we obtain a characterization for the generalized cigar Ricci soliton and the Gaussian Ricci soliton.
In this short paper, we show a sufficient condition for the solvability of the Dirichlet problem at infinity in Riemannian cones (as defined below). This condition is related to a celebrated result of Milnor that classifies parabolic surfaces. When applied to smooth Riemannian manifolds with a special type of metrics, which generalize the class of metrics with rotational symmetry, we obtain generalizations of classical criteria for the solvability of the Dirichlet problem at infinity. Our proof is short and elementary: it uses separation of variables and comparison arguments for ODEs.
We investigate the geometry of Hermitian manifolds endowed with a compact Lie group action by holomorphic isometries with principal orbits of codimension one. In particular, we focus on a special class of these manifolds constructed by following Bérard-Bergery which includes, among the others, the holomorphic line bundles on $\mathbb {C}\mathbb {P}^{m-1}$, the linear Hopf manifolds and the Hirzebruch surfaces. We characterize their invariant special Hermitian metrics, such as balanced, Kähler-like, pluriclosed, locally conformally Kähler, Vaisman and Gauduchon. Furthermore, we construct new examples of cohomogeneity one Hermitian metrics solving the second-Chern–Einstein equation and the constant Chern-scalar curvature equation.
In this paper we obtain some improved
$L^p$
-Hardy and
$L^p$
-Rellich inequalities on bounded domains of Riemannian manifolds. For Cartan–Hadamard manifolds we prove the inequalities with sharp constants and with weights being hyperbolic functions of the Riemannian distance.
For a smooth strongly convex Minkowski norm
$F:\mathbb {R}^n \to \mathbb {R}_{\geq 0}$
, we study isometries of the Hessian metric corresponding to the function
$E=\tfrac 12F^2$
. Under the additional assumption that F is invariant with respect to the standard action of
$SO(k)\times SO(n-k)$
, we prove a conjecture of Laugwitz stated in 1965. Furthermore, we describe all isometries between such Hessian metrics, and prove Landsberg Unicorn Conjecture for Finsler manifolds of dimension
$n\ge 3$
such that at every point the corresponding Minkowski norm has a linear
$SO(k)\times SO(n-k)$
-symmetry.
The aim of this paper is to study complete (noncompact) m-quasi-Einstein manifolds with λ=0 satisfying a fourth-order vanishing condition on the Weyl tensor and zero radial Weyl curvature. In this case, we are able to prove that an m-quasi-Einstein manifold (m>1) with λ=0 on a simply connected n-dimensional manifold(Mn, g), (n ≥ 4), of nonnegative Ricci curvature and zero radial Weyl curvature must be a warped product with (n–1)–dimensional Einstein fiber, provided that M has fourth-order divergence-free Weyl tensor (i.e. div4W =0).
We first establish a family of sharp Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg type inequalities (shortly, sharp CKN inequalities) on the Euclidean spaces and then extend them to the setting of Cartan–Hadamard manifolds with the same best constant. The quantitative version of these inequalities also is proved by adding a non-negative remainder term in terms of the sectional curvature of manifolds. We next prove several rigidity results for complete Riemannian manifolds supporting the Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg type inequalities with the same sharp constant as in the Euclidean space of the same dimension. Our results illustrate the influence of curvature to the sharp CKN inequalities on the Riemannian manifolds. They extend recent results of Kristály (J. Math. Pures Appl. 119 (2018), 326–346) to a larger class of the sharp CKN inequalities.
We prove some results for the solitons of the Ricci–Bourguignon flow, generalizing the corresponding results for Ricci solitons. Taking motivation from Ricci almost solitons, we then introduce the notion of Ricci–Bourguignon almost solitons and prove some results about them that generalize previous results for Ricci almost solitons. We also derive integral formulas for compact gradient Ricci–Bourguignon solitons and compact gradient Ricci–Bourguignon almost solitons. Finally, using the integral formula, we show that a compact gradient Ricci–Bourguignon almost soliton is isometric to a Euclidean sphere if it has constant scalar curvature or its associated vector field is conformal.
The article is devoted to Hardy type inequalities on closed manifolds. By means of various weighted Ricci curvatures, we establish several sharp Hardy type inequalities on closed weighted Riemannian manifolds. Our results complement in several aspects those obtained recently in the non-compact Riemannian setting.
In this note, we prove that a four-dimensional compact oriented half-conformally flat Riemannian manifold M4 is topologically
$\mathbb{S}^{4}$
or
$\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^{2}$
, provided that the sectional curvatures all lie in the interval
$\left[ {{{3\sqrt {3 - 5} } \over 4}, 1} \right]$
In addition, we use the notion of biorthogonal (sectional) curvature to obtain a pinching condition which guarantees that a four-dimensional compact manifold is homeomorphic to a connected sum of copies of the complex projective plane or the 4-sphere.
In this paper, we prove several new Hardy type inequalities (such as the weighted Hardy inequality, weighted Rellich inequality, critical Hardy inequality and critical Rellich inequality) related to the radial derivation (i.e., the derivation along the geodesic curves) on the Cartan–Hadamard manifolds. By Gauss lemma, our new Hardy inequalities are stronger than the classical ones. We also establish the improvements of these inequalities in terms of sectional curvature of the underlying manifolds which illustrate the effect of curvature to these inequalities. Furthermore, we obtain some improvements of Hardy and Rellich inequalities on the hyperbolic space ℍn. Especially, we show that our new Rellich inequalities are indeed stronger than the classical ones on the hyperbolic space ℍn.
We extend two known existence results to simply connected manifolds with positive sectional curvature: we show that there exist pairs of simply connected positively-curved manifolds that are tangentially homotopy equivalent but not homeomorphic, and we deduce that an open manifold may admit a pair of non-homeomorphic simply connected and positively-curved souls. Examples of such pairs are given by explicit pairs of Eschenburg spaces. To deduce the second statement from the first, we extend our earlier work on the stable converse soul question and show that it has a positive answer for a class of spaces that includes all Eschenburg spaces.
The object of this paper is to study Yamabe solitons on almost co-Kähler manifolds as well as on $(k,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$-almost co-Kähler manifolds. We also study Ricci solitons on $(k,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$-almost co-Kähler manifolds.
