In this paper we extend results on reconstruction of probabilistic supports of independent and identically distributed random variables to supports of dependent stationary ${\mathbb R}^d$-valued random variables. All supports are assumed to be compact of positive reach in Euclidean space. Our main results involve the study of the convergence in the Hausdorff sense of a cloud of stationary dependent random vectors to their common support. A novel topological reconstruction result is stated, and a number of illustrative examples are presented. The example of the Möbius Markov chain on the circle is treated at the end with simulations.

A directed space is a topological space $X$ together with a subspace $\vec {P}(X)\subset X^I$ of directed paths on $X$. A symmetry of a directed space should therefore respect both the topology of the underlying space and the topology of the associated spaces $\vec {P}(X)_-^+$ of directed paths between a source ($-$) and a target ($+$)—up to homotopy. If it is, moreover, homotopic to the identity map—in a directed sense—such a symmetry will be called an inessential d-map, and the paper explores the algebra and topology of inessential d-maps. Comparing two d-spaces $X$ and $Y$ ‘up to symmetry’ yields the notion of a directed homotopy equivalence between them. Under appropriate conditions, all directed homotopy equivalences are shown to satisfy a 2-out-of-3 property. Our notion of directed homotopy equivalence does not agree completely with the one defined in Goubault (2017, arxiv:1709:05702v2) and Goubault, Farber and Sagnier (2020, J. Appl. Comput. Topol. 4, 11–27); the deviation is motivated by examples. Nevertheless, directed topological complexity, introduced in Goubault, Farber and Sagnier (2020) is shown to be invariant under our notion of directed homotopy equivalence. Finally, we show that directed homotopy equivalences result in isomorphisms on the pair component categories of directed spaces introduced in Goubault, Farber and Sagnier (2020).

Let S2n+1{p} denote the homotopy fibre of the degree p self map of S2n+1. For primes p ≥ 5, work by Selick shows that S2n+1{p} admits a non-trivial loop space decomposition if and only if n = 1 or p. Indecomposability in all but these dimensions was obtained by showing that a non-trivial decomposition of ΩS2n+1{p} implies the existence of a p-primary Kervaire invariant one element of order p in $\pi _{2n(p-1)-2}^S$. We prove the converse of this last implication and observe that the homotopy decomposition problem for ΩS2n+1{p} is equivalent to the strong p-primary Kervaire invariant problem for all odd primes. For p = 3, we use the 3-primary Kervaire invariant element θ3 to give a new decomposition of ΩS55{3} analogous to Selick's decomposition of ΩS2p+1{p} and as an application prove two new cases of a long-standing conjecture stating that the fibre of the double suspension $S^{2n-1} \longrightarrow \Omega ^2S^{2n+1}$ is homotopy equivalent to the double loop space of Anick's space.

In robotics, a topological theory of motion planning was initiated by M. Farber. We present optimal motion planning algorithms which can be used in designing practical systems controlling objects moving in Euclidean space without collisions between them and avoiding obstacles. Furthermore, we present the multi-tasking version of the algorithms.

The Lusternik–Schnirelmann category cat and topological complexity TC are related homotopy invariants. The topological complexity TC has applications to the robot motion planning problem. We calculate the Lusternik–Schnirelmann category and topological complexity of the ordered configuration space of two distinct points in the product $G\times \mathbb{R}^{n}$ and apply the results to the planar and spatial motion of two rigid bodies in $\mathbb{R}^{2}$ and $\mathbb{R}^{3}$ respectively.

We calculate the group of homotopy classes of homotopy self-equivalences of 4-manifolds with free fundamental group and obtain a classification of such 4-manifolds up to s-cobordism.

The fiber ${{W}_{n}}$ of the double suspension ${{S}^{2n-1}}\,\to \,{{\Omega }^{2}}{{S}^{2n+1}}$ is known to have a classifying space $B{{W}_{n}}$. An important conjecture linking the $EPH$ sequence to the homotopy theory of Moore spaces is that $B{{W}_{n}}\,\simeq \,\Omega {{T}^{2np+1}}(p)$, where ${{T}^{2np+1}}(p)$ is Anick's space. This is known if $n\,=\,1$. We prove the $n\,=\,p$ case and establish some related properties.

We prove that the neighborhood complex $\text{N}\left( G \right)$, the box complex $\text{B}\left( G \right)$, the homomorphism complex $\text{Hom}\left( {{K}_{2}},\,G \right)$ and the Lovász complex $\text{L}\left( G \right)$ have the same simple ${{\mathbb{Z}}_{2}}$ -homotopy type in the sense of Whitehead. We show that these graph complexes are simple ${{\mathbb{Z}}_{2}}$ -universal.

We provide a wedge decomposition of the homotopy type of the p-subgroup complex in the case of a finite solvable group G. In particular, this includes a new proof of the result of Quillen which says that this complex is contractible if and only if there is a non-trivial normal p-subgroup in G. We also provide reduction formulas for the G-module structure of the homology groups. Our results are obtained with diagram-methods by gluing the p-subgroup complex of G along the p-subgroup complex of = G/N for a normal p′-subgroup of G.

Examples of finite complexes are given whose self-homotopy equivalences group is isomorphic to the group of integers.

L'homotopie de l'espace des équivalences homotopie fibrées, est limite d'une suite spectrale dont on calcule ici la première différentielle. On montre, sous des hypothèses assez générales et dans le cas où le fibré admet une section, que cette différentielle est la somme des trois opérations suivantes:

une opération produit tensoriel d'une opération cohomologique type carré de Steenrod avec une opération homotopique de Hopf

une opération définie par le "Brace-product" du fibré

La différentielle de la suite spectrale associée à l'homotopie de l'espace des équivalences d'homotopie d'un espace s'obtient en prenant la base réduite à un point. Ce calcul prolonge certains résultats de [KA 69], [CO-HA].

A short proof of the following result of Bernstein and Ganea is given:

“Let X be a topological space which is homotopy dominated by a closed connected n-dimensional manifold M. If Hn (X; Z2 ) ≠ 0 then X has the homotopy type of M”.

It is also shown that the manifold in this theorem can be replaced by a Poincaré complex.
