Self-shrinkers are an important class of solutions to the mean curvature flow and their generalization is λ-hypersurfaces. In this paper, we study λ-hypersurfaces and give a rigidity result about complete λ-hypersurfaces.

Using the flow method, we prove some existence results for the problem of prescribing the mean curvature on the unit ball. More precisely, we prove that there exists a conformal metric on the unit ball such that its mean curvature is f, when f possesses certain reflection or rotation symmetry.

We prove a gradient estimate for graphical spacelike mean curvature flow with a general Neumann boundary condition in dimension n = 2. This then implies that the mean curvature flow exists for all time and converges to a translating solution.

We consider a curvature flow $V=\unicode[STIX]{x1D705}+A$ in a two-dimensional undulating cylinder $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA}$ described by $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA}:=\{(x,y)\in \mathbb{R}^{2}\mid -g_{1}(y)<x<g_{2}(y),y\in \mathbb{R}\}$, where $V$ is the normal velocity of a moving curve contacting the boundaries of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FA}$ perpendicularly, $\unicode[STIX]{x1D705}$ is its curvature, $A>0$ is a constant and $g_{1}(y),g_{2}(y)$ are positive smooth functions. If $g_{1}$ and $g_{2}$ are periodic functions and there are no stationary curves, Matano et al. [‘Periodic traveling waves in a two-dimensional cylinder with saw-toothed boundary and their homogenization limit’, Netw. Heterog. Media1 (2006), 537–568] proved the existence of a periodic travelling wave. We consider the case where $g_{1},g_{2}$ are general nonperiodic positive functions and the problem has some stationary curves. For each stationary curve $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}$ unstable from above/below, we construct an entire solution growing out of it, that is, a solution curve $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}_{t}$ which increases/decreases monotonically, converging to $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}$ as $t\rightarrow -\infty$ and converging to another stationary curve or to $+\infty /-\infty$ as $t\rightarrow \infty$.

The convergence and blow-up results are established for the evolution of non-simple closed curves in an area-preserving curvature flow. It is shown that the global solution starting from a locally convex curve converges to an m-fold circle if the enclosed algebraic area A0 is positive, and evolves into a point if A0 = 0.

We give a new and simple proof of a result of Ding and Xin, which states that any smooth complete self-shrinker in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$ with the second fundamental form of constant length must be a generalised cylinder $\mathbb{S}^{k}\times \mathbb{R}^{2-k}$ for some $k\leq 2$. Moreover, we prove a gap theorem for smooth self-shrinkers in all dimensions.

This paper considers the Ricci flow coupled with the harmonic map flow between two manifolds. We derive estimates for the fundamental solution of the corresponding conjugate heat equation and we prove an analogue of Perelman's differential Harnack inequality. As an application, we find a connection between the entropy functional and the best constant in the Sobolev embedding theorem in ℝn .

In this short note we present a result of Perelman with detailed proof. The result states that if $g(t)$ is the Kähler Ricci flow on a compact, Kähler manifold $M$ with $c_1(M)>0$, the scalar curvature and diameter of $(M,g(t))$ stay uniformly bounded along the flow, for $t\in[0,\infty)$. We learned about this result and its proof from Grigori Perelman when he was visiting MIT in the spring of 2003. This may be helpful to people studying the Kähler Ricci flow.
