It is shown that there exists $\delta _\star =\delta _\star (n)\gt 0$ such that for any given $\alpha \ge \frac{1}{\delta _\star }$ and for any suitably regular initial data satisfying $v(\cdot, 0)\le \delta _\star$, this problem admits a unique classical solution that stabilizes to the constant equilibrium $(\frac{1}{|\Omega |}\int _\Omega u(\cdot, 0), \, \frac{1}{\alpha })$ in the large time limit.

We consider a parabolic-parabolic chemotaxis system with singular chemotactic sensitivity and source functions, which is originally introduced by Short et al to model the spatio-temporal behaviour of urban criminal activities with the particular value of the chemotactic sensitivity parameter $\chi =2$. The available analytical findings for this urban crime model including $\chi =2$ are restricted either to one-dimensional setting, or to initial data and source functions with appropriate smallness, or to initial data and source functions with some radial symmetry. In the present work, our first result asserts that for any $\chi \gt 0$ the initial-boundary value problem of this urban crime model possesses a global generalised solution in the two-dimensional setting, without imposing any small or radial conditions on initial data and source functions. Our second result presents the asymptotic behaviour of such solution, under some additional assumptions on source functions.

We investigate the global Cauchy problem for a two–phase flow model consisting of the pressureless Euler equations coupled with the isentropic compressible Navier–Stokes equations through a drag forcing term. This model was first derived by Choi–Kwon [J. Differential Equations, 261(1) (2016), pp. 654–711] by taking the hydrodynamic limit of the Vlasov/compressible Navier–Stokes equations. Under the assumption that the initial perturbation is sufficiently small, Choi–Kwon [J. Differential Equations, 261(1) (2016), pp. 654–711] established the global well–posedness and large time behaviour for the three dimensional periodic domain $\mathbb {T}^3$. However, up to now, the global well–posedness and large time behaviour for the three dimensional Cauchy problem still remain unsolved. In this paper, we resolve this problem by proving the global existence and optimal decay rates of classic solutions for the three dimensional Cauchy problem when the initial data is near its equilibrium. One of key observations here is that to overcome the difficulties arising from the absence of pressure in the Euler equations, we make full use of the drag forcing term and the dissipative structure of the Navier–Stokes equations to closure the energy estimates of the variables for the pressureless Euler equations.

In bounded intervals $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}$ and with prescribed suitably regular non-negative functions $B_1$ and $B_2$ , we first prove the existence of global classical solutions for any choice of $\chi>0$ and all reasonably regular non-negative initial data.

We next address the issue of determining the qualitative behaviour of solutions under appropriate assumptions on the asymptotic properties of $B_1$ and $B_2$ . Indeed, for arbitrary $\chi>0$ , we obtain boundedness of the solutions given strict positivity of the average of $B_2$ over the domain; moreover, it is seen that imposing a mild decay assumption on $B_1$ implies that u must decay to zero in the long-term limit. Our final result, valid for all $\chi\in\left(0,\frac{\sqrt{6\sqrt{3}+9}}{2}\right),$ which contains the relevant value $\chi=2$ , states that under the above decay assumption on $B_1$ , if furthermore $B_2$ appropriately stabilises to a non-trivial function $B_{2,\infty}$ , then (u,v) approaches the limit $(0,v_\infty)$ , where $v_\infty$ denotes the solution of

In this study, we investigate the intial value problem (IVP) for a time-fractional fourth-order equation with nonlinear source terms. More specifically, we consider the time-fractional biharmonic with exponential nonlinearity and the time-fractional Cahn–Hilliard equation. By using the Fourier transform concept, the generalized formula for the mild solution as well as the smoothing effects of resolvent operators are proved. For the IVP associated with the first one, by using the Orlicz space with the function $\Xi (z)={\textrm {e}}^{|z|^{p}}-1$ and some embeddings between it and the usual Lebesgue spaces, we prove that the solution is a global-in-time solution or it shall blow up in a finite time if the initial value is regular. In the case of singular initial data, the local-in-time/global-in-time existence and uniqueness are derived. Also, the regularity of the mild solution is investigated. For the IVP associated with the second one, some modifications to the generalized formula are made to deal with the nonlinear term. We also establish some important estimates for the derivatives of resolvent operators, they are the basis for using the Picard sequence to prove the local-in-time existence of the solution.

In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem of a repulsion Keller–Segel system with a logarithmic sensitivity modelling the reinforced random walk. By establishing an energy–dissipation identity, we prove the existence of classical solutions in two dimensions as well as existence of weak solutions in the three-dimensional setting. Moreover, it is shown that the weak solutions enjoy an eventual regularity property, i.e., it becomes regular after certain time T > 0. An exponential convergence rate towards the spatially homogeneous steady states is obtained as well. We adopt a new approach developed recently by the author to study the eventual regularity. The argument is based on observation of the exponential stability of constant solutions in scaling-invariant spaces together with certain dissipative property of the global solutions in the same spaces.

We propose and study a class of parabolic-ordinary differential equation models involving chemotaxis and haptotaxis of a species following signals indirectly produced by another, non-motile one. The setting is motivated by cancer invasion mediated by interactions with the tumour microenvironment, but has much wider applicability, being able to comprise descriptions of biologically quite different problems. As a main mathematical feature constituting a core difference to both classical Keller–Segel chemotaxis systems and Chaplain–Lolas type chemotaxis–haptotaxis systems, the considered model accounts for certain types of indirect signal production mechanisms. The main results assert unique global classical solvability under suitably mild assumptions on the system parameter functions in associated spatially two-dimensional initial-boundary value problems. In particular, this rigorously confirms that at least in two-dimensional settings, the considered indirectness in signal production induces a significant blow-up suppressing tendency also in taxis systems substantially more general than some particular examples for which corresponding effects have recently been observed.

We consider a Keller–Segel model that describes the cellular chemotactic movement away from repulsive chemical subject to logarithmic sensitivity function over a confined region in ${{\mathbb{R}}^n},\,n \le 2$ . This sensitivity function describes the empirically tested Weber–Fecher’s law of living organism’s perception of a physical stimulus. We prove that, regardless of chemotaxis strength and initial data, this repulsive system is globally well-posed and the constant solution is the global and exponential in time attractor. Our results confirm the ‘folklore’ that chemorepulsion inhibits the formation of non-trivial steady states within the logarithmic chemotaxis model, hence preventing cellular aggregation therein.

This paper investigates the global well-posedness of a class of reaction–advection–diffusion models with nonlinear diffusion and Lotka–Volterra dynamics. We prove the existence and uniform boundedness of the global-in-time solutions to the fully parabolic systems under certain growth conditions on the diffusion and sensitivity functions. Global existence and uniform boundedness of the corresponding parabolic–elliptic system are also obtained. Our results suggest that attraction (positive taxis) inhibits blowups in Lotka–Volterra competition systems.

We investigate the Cauchy problem of the viscous liquid-gas two-phase flow model in ℝ3. Under the assumption that the initial data is close to the constant equilibrium state in the framework of Sobolev space H2(ℝ3), the Cauchy problem is shown to be globally well-posed by an energy method. If additionally, for 1 ⩽ p < 6/5, Lp-norm of the initial perturbation is bounded, the optimal convergence rates of the solutions in Lq-norm with 2 ⩽ q ⩽ 6 and optimal convergence rates of their spatial derivatives in L2-norm are also obtained by combining spectral analysis with energy methods.

We demonstrate the global existence of weak solutions to a class of semilinear strongly damped wave equations possessing nonlinear hyperbolic dynamic boundary conditions. The associated linear operator is $(-\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E5}_{W})^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}}\unicode[STIX]{x2202}_{t}u$, where $\unicode[STIX]{x1D703}\in [\frac{1}{2},1)$ and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E5}_{W}$ is the Wentzell–Laplacian. A balance condition is assumed to hold between the nonlinearity defined on the interior of the domain and the nonlinearity on the boundary. This allows for arbitrary (supercritical) polynomial growth of each potential, as well as mixed dissipative/antidissipative behaviour.

In this paper, we study the initial boundary value problem for a class of fourth order damped wave equations with arbitrary positive initial energy. In the framework of the energy method, we further exploit the properties of the Nehari functional. Finally, the global existence and finite time blow-up of solutions are obtained.

In this paper, we study the positive solutions for a semilinear equation in hyperbolic space. Using the heat semigroup and by constructing subsolutions and supersolutions, a Fujita-type result is established.

In this paper, we discuss the blowup of Volterra integro-differential equations (VIDEs) with a dissipative linear term. To overcome the fluctuation of solutions, we establish a Razumikhin-type theorem to verify the unboundedness of solutions. We also introduce leaving-times and arriving-times for the estimation of the spending-times of solutions to ∞. Based on these two typical techniques, the blowup and global existence of solutions to VIDEs with local and global integrable kernels are presented. As applications, the critical exponents of semi-linear Volterra diffusion equations (SLVDEs) on bounded domains with constant kernel are generalized to SLVDEs on bounded domains and ℝN with some local integrable kernels. Moreover, the critical exponents of SLVDEs on both bounded domains and the unbounded domain ℝN are investigated for global integrable kernels.

where are linear positive continuous operators and f : Cloc(ℝ;ℝ) → Lloc(ℝ;ℝ) is a continuous operator satisfying the local Carathéodory conditions. Efficient conditions guaranteeing the existence of a global solution, which is bounded and non-negative in the neighbourhood of –∞, to the equation considered are established provided that ℓ0, ℓ1 and f are Volterra-type operators. The existence of a solution that is positive on the whole real line is discussed as well. Furthermore, the asymptotic properties of such solutions are studied in the neighbourhood of –∞. The results are applied to certain models appearing in the natural sciences.

In this paper we are interested in a sharp result about the global existence and blowup of solutions to a class of pseudo-parabolic equations. First, we represent a unique local weak solution in a new integral form that does not depend on any semigroup. Second, with the help of the Nehari manifold related to the stationary equation, we separate the whole space into two components S+ and S– via a new method, then a sufficient and necessary condition under which the weak solution blows up is established, that is, a weak solution blows up at a finite time if and only if the initial data belongs to S–. Furthermore, we study the decay behaviour of both the solution and the energy functional, and the decay ratios are given specifically.

The initial value problem for a semi-linear fractional heat equation is investigated. In the focusing case, global well-posedness and exponential decay are obtained. In the focusing sign, global and non global existence of solutions are discussed via the potential well method.

In this paper, we consider the Gross-Pitaevskii equation for the trapped dipolar quantum gases. We obtain the sharp criterion for the global existence and finite time blow-up in the unstable regime by constructing a variational problem and the so-called invariant manifold of the evolution flow.

We show that for manifolds of dimension $m\geq 5$, the flow of a Seiberg–Witten-type functional admits a global smooth solution.
