Mental Health Economics

BJPsych Open will publish a themed series in 2024/5 with articles related to mental health economics. We invite submission from all authors describing original applied and methodological research, evidence synthesis using systematic review/meta-analysis, policy papers along with editorials within the broad topic area of economics and mental health across the globe. 

A range of content within this subject area will be considered but submissions must relate to mental health. Areas of focus might include:

  • Cost-of-illness
  • Economic evaluation/Return on investment
  • Financing and payment models
  • Global perspectives on mental health economics
  • Inequality in mental health
  • Mental health economic methods development
  • Mental health policy
  • Mental healthcare quality
  • Mental health services research
  • Mental health and care workforce
  • Patient preference and choice
  • Priority setting, resource allocation, optimization
  • Socioeconomic determinants of mental health
  • Value of information
