Climate change is one of the greatest threats to health that societies face and can adversely affect mental health. Given the current lack of a European consensus paper on the interplay between climate change and mental health, we signal a need for a pan-European position paper about this topic, written by stakeholders working in mental health care.

On behalf of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA), we give recommendations to make mental health care, research, and education more sustainable based on a narrative review of the literature.

Examples of sustainable mental healthcare comprise preventive strategies, interdisciplinary collaborations, evidence-based patient care, addressing social determinants of mental health, maintaining health services during extreme weather events, optimising use of resources, and sustainable facility management. In mental health research, sustainable strategies include investigating the impact of climate change on mental health, promoting research on climate change interventions, strengthening the evidence base for mental health-care recommendations, evaluating the allocation of research funding, and establishing evidence-based definitions and clinical approaches for emerging issues such as ‘eco-distress’. Regarding mental health education, planetary health, which refers to human health and how it is intertwined with ecosystems, may be integrated into educational courses.

The EPA is committed to combat climate change as the latter poses a threat to the future of mental health care. The current EPA position paper on climate change and mental health may be of interest to a diverse readership of stakeholders, including clinicians, researchers, educators, patients, and policymakers.

The data were collectedfrom 225 registered nurses using the Community Attitude towards Mental illness(CAMI) scale. The data were analysed by SPSS 20 software.

the results revealed that nurse's attitude towards people with mental illnesswere generally positive. Nurses' positive attitudes were associated with age, gender, years of experience, previous contact with people with mental illnessand position.

Positive nurses' attitude toward peoplewith mental illness is an important outcome indicator for the prospect to improvementwith treatment and prospect of recovery. The understanding of such a phenomenonmay also result in an increased possibility of provided care as well asrecovery and a better life for people with mental illness. According to scientific literature, cognitive impairment is a disabling feature of the bipolar disorder (BD), present in all the phases of the disease. Obesity and metabolic disorders represent another risk factor for cognitive dysfunctions in BD, since the excess of weight could adversely influence several cognitive domains.

To highlight the presence of impairment of cognitive functions in a sample of subjects suffering from BD and obesity.

Evaluation of the cognitive performance in a sample of BD patients, considering their anthropometric measures (height and weight) and body mass index (BMI).

The neuropsychological battery MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) was administered by trained physicians for the evaluation of seven different cognitive domains in 46 patients (mean age: 43.17 years old; 39.13% male), affected by BD enrolled in the psychiatric unit of Azienda Sanitaria Locale and University of Foggia. In particular, cognitive functions assessed were speed of processing, attention/vigilance, working memory, verbal learning, visual learning, reasoning and problem solving, and social cognition. BMI was calculated, and patients were divided into a group of normal weight and another one of overweight or obese, on the base of BMI value (BMI cut-off = 25).

The obese patients amounted at 56.52%. We have found the presence of cognitive deficits in two of the seven domains assessed, that are speed of processing (P < 0.01) and reasoning and problem solving (P < 0.05) in the sample of overweight patients.

Cognitive deficits are clearly revealed in BD patients during the euthymic phase of the disorder. The obesity in BD could contribute to increase dysfunctions in cognitive domains.

Suicide rates among patients with cancer are higher than ones in the general population.

This meta-analysis aims to estimate the suicide risk in patients with cancer.

We searched Medline, PsycINFO, and the Cochrane library to identify articles published before July 1, 2016, examining the association between suicide [death (SD), attempt (SA), ideation (SI)] and any form of diagnosed cancer.

We initially identified 4880 records and after unsuitable studies were removed, our search yielded 102 publications of which 14 were used in the meta-analyses. Patients with cancer had higher risk of SD (seven studies, 247.869 participants; odds ratio [OR] = 1.52, 95% CI = 1.22–1.89, P = 0.0002) compared with those without cancer (among case-control studies focused on SD versus living controls). Among studies focused on SD versus other deaths, patients with cancer had higher risk of SD (two studies, 23.839 participants; OR = 1.53, 95% CI = 1.03–2.27, P = 0.03). No difference has been detected for risk of SA (four studies, 8.147.762 participants) and for SI (two studies, 37.879 participants).

Since publication bias was detected, the “trim and fill” method was applied. The majority of the included studies have a high quality at the STROBE statement.

The assessment of suicide risk in this population is crucial.

The EUNOMIA international project focuses on the application of coercive measures in psychiatric treatment. The use of coercive measures to mentally ill people is a very sensitive topic. The type and frequency of this action is influenced by different cultural or legal traditions, general attitudes toward mentally ill people and the structure and quality of mental health care systems.

Presentation of the frequency and way of administration of coercive measures to psychiatric inpatients with acute mental illness in the Czech Republic.

All coercive measures used during hospitalization (restraint, seclusion, forced medication) were documented in detail in special form. The definition of coercive measures was following: Restraint - fixation of at least one limb for longer than 15 minutes. Forced medication – the use of restraint or high psychological pressure to administer medication.Seclusion -involuntary placement of the patient alone in a locked room.

We have evaluated the group of 202 involuntarily admitted patients and the group of 59 voluntarily admitted patients perceiving some coercion at admission.

Restraint, forced medication or/ and seclusion were used in 45,5% of involuntarily admitted patients. In 2/3 of these patients some coercive measure was repeated. In the group of voluntarily admitted patients coercive measures were used only marginally (5,1%).

The most frequent measure used was forced medication. Mainly typical antipsychotics and benzodiazepins were administered.

Presented results show the praxis with the use of coercive measures in the Czech Republic. The data were gathered within the EUNOMIA project.

Smoking rates in schizotypic individuals are shown to be elevated, as in patients with schizophrenia, although findings on the association of smoking with different symptomatology of schizotypy have been mixed. Moreover, possible moderating effects of schizotypy on the relationship between smoking and cognition have not been well documented.

The Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ) and the full version of the Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised (WMS-R) were administered to 501 healthy adults. Subjects were divided into smokers (n = 85) and non-smokers (n = 416) based on the presence/absence of current smoking.

The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) on the three factor scores as well as the total score of the SPQ, controlling for age and gender, revealed that cognitive-perceptual factor was significantly associated with an increased rate of smoking (P = 0.048). The ANCOVA on the WMS-R indices, with smoking group as a fixed factor and age, gender and total SPQ score as covariates, revealed that the schizotypy-by-smoking interaction was significant for attention/working memory (P = 0.029).

Positive schizotypy may be associated with more smoking. Schizotypy and smoking could interact with each other to negatively affect attention/working memory.

Depression and anxiety are the commonest psychiatric disorder in patient with thyroid disorders but continues to be significantly under-recognized and under treated. As a result, it may affect quality of life.

The objective was to determine the prevalence of depression and anxiety among thyroid patients and their associates.

This is a cross-sectional study conducted in the Endocrinology Clinic in University Malaya Medical Centre. The patients were interviewed by using MINI International Neuropsychiatry Inventory (MINI) for diagnostic assessment. Socio-demographic and the clinical data were obtained by interviewing the patients and also from the case notes. Quality of life was assessed by using Short Form Health Questionnaires (SF-36).

A total of 160 subjects were recruited. Current prevalence of 9.4% for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and 22.5% for Anxiety Disorder (AD) were found using MINI. Lifetime prevalence was 17.5% for MDD and 27.5% for AD. Panic disorder was the commonest type of anxiety disorder (16.9%) followed by generalized anxiety disorder (11.3%), social phobia (4.4%), agoraphobia (2.5%) and obsessive compulsive disorder (1.9%). Having past history of depression or anxiety was highly significantly associated with MDD (p< 0.001, OR 276.6, 95% CI= 33.2-2306.9) and AD (p< 0.001, OR=16, 95% CI=4.9-51.6). The score for quality of life was lower in those with MDD and AD. It was more pronounced among MDD patients.

The prevalence of MDD and AD among patients with thyroid disorders should be recognised. In addition, patients with MDD and AD had poorer quality of life.

Immigration is a factor with effects on the course of substance abuse and treatment response, however there is little consistent data regarding outcome of inpatient opiate detoxification treatment in immigrants as compared to native patients.

Patient history and the success of current detoxification treatment were systematically documented in a multicenter study in Germany which included 10 psychiatric hospitals with specialized detoxification wards.

Out of 893 patients, 240 (27%) had a migration history. We further analyzed the three main groups (German, n = 653; Turkish, n = 58; Russian origin, n = 103). There were significant differences between groups regarding sociodemographic data, drug history, treatment experience and success of current treatment. However, considering the younger age of patients with Russian origin, analysis of younger patients (< 31 years) detected only minor group differences. In multiple logistic regressions age and center showed statistically significant associations with all outcome variables (early dropout, achievement of drug-free urine screen, regular completion of detoxification treatment, and referral to further treatment), while (Russian) origin was associated only with premature termination of treatment.

Young men were the main problem group regardless of origin. Significant center effects raise doubts regarding results from monocenter research.

Art therapy means treatment and healing of mental disturbance through an artistic mediated through which the client can reveal itself and helps the therapist to analyze what he has offered and take another step towards the methods of treatment.

Therefore, in this study, with a proactive approach to examine the effects of art therapy on housewives general health, anxiety and self-efficiency in Tehran.

In order that twenty-one housewives in West of Tehran area were selected randomly using a cluster sampling method and they were divided into three groups of seven subjects each. Each three groups responded general health, Sherer general self-efficacy and Beck anxiety tests before and after applying the Independent variable (art therapy). Twelve art therapy, sessions per a week for 90 minutes each session was held. To describe data, we used a tree diagram, central indices such as mean and standard deviation, and we used t test for statistical analyzing of research hypotheses.

According to the results, art therapy has significant influence on general health and its components in the housewives (5/44) . Art therapy significantly reduces the housewives anxiety (5/89). Art therapy significantly increase the housewives efficiency (3/73) .

Art therapy can be effective when used in treating anxiety, promote general health and self-efficacy.
