Though schizophrenia (SZ) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are conceptualized as distinct clinical entities, they do have notable symptom overlap and a tight association. Graph-theoretical analysis of the brain connectome provides more indicators to describe the functional organization of the brain, which may help us understand the shared and disorder-specific neural basis of the two disorders.

To explore the static and dynamic topological organization of OCD and SZ as well as the relationship between topological metrics and clinical variables.

Resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging data of 31 OCD patients, 49 SZ patients, and 45 healthy controls (HC) were involved in this study (Table 1). Using independent component analysis to obtain independent components (ICs) (Figure 1), which were defined as nodes for static and dynamic topological analysis.

Static analysis showed the global efficiency of SZ was higher than HC. For nodal degree centrality, OCD exhibited decreased degree centrality in IC59 (located in visiual network) (P = 0.03) and increased degree centrality in IC38 (located in salience network) (P = 0.002) compared with HC. Dynamic analysis showed OCD exhibited decreased dynamics of degree centrality in IC38 (P = 0.003) compared with HC, which showed a negative correlation with clinical scores in OCD. While SZ showed decreased dynamics of degree centrality in IC76 (located in sensory motor network) compared with OCD (P=0.009), which showed a positive correlation with clinical scores in SZ (Figure 2).

These changes are suggestive of disorder-specific alternation of static and dynamic brain topological organization in OCD and SZ.

The bipolar disorder is characterized by instability mood. It normally happens in the middle-aged. In elderly patients with a first manic episode, you have to dismiss organic pathology.

A 67-year-old man, married. Consulted Mental Health 5 years ago, about low mood after his early retirement. With no psychiatric treatment. Somatic antecedents: Acute myocardial infarction, hypertension and dyslipidemia. Came to the hospital accompanied by his son-in-law presenting rapid speech and thinking, bright clothing, risky behaviour, irritability, grandiosity deliration ideas and less sleep; being necessary a hospital admission. Blood and urine analysis: with no abnormalities. No toxics in the urine. Asenapine 20mg and Lorazepam 3mg were prescribed with clinical improvement. Brain CT: with no abnormalities. After that, Lithium 400mg per day was prescribed to avoid the induction of depression. Clinical judgement: manic episode. Bipolar disorder Type I

After dismissing somatic causes, the symptomatic treatment of a manic episode in older patients is on the same lines as the treatment for mania in young adults. 8-10% of psychiatric inpatients over age 55-60 years are diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Since there is an increase in the number of individuals living longer, an expected increase in the number of older adults who will be diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Older adults with bipolar disorder will increase in absolute numbers as well as the proportion of the general populations.

Epilepsy has long been considered a risk factor for psychosis, and studies estimate that up to 80% of patients with epilepsy will experience a psychotic episode at some point in the course of their disease. However, data on the treatment of psychotic disorders in epilepsy is limited and the management of these problems is still founded on individual clinical experience.

To assess evidence pertaining psychosis related to epilepsy, especially its risks factors and treatment approaches available.

Bibliographic research was made through the PubMed/NCBI database. No time limit was specified on the search. Pertinent manuscripts were individually reviewed for additional relevant citations.

Recent literature shows a prevalence in psychotic disorders of 5.6%, and up to 7% in patients with epilepsy. So far, mechanisms of psychosis in epileptic patients remain unknown. Risk factors are earlier age of epilepsy onset, more frequent seizures, longer duration of epilepsy, high number of relatives with epilepsy and long-term antiepileptic drugs therapy. Psychiatric manifestations may include both positive and negative symptoms, including auditory hallucinations, paranoid delusions, and disorganized thought and/or behaviour. Poor adherence to treatment with oral antipsychotics occurs in more than 40% of patients; long-acting injectable medication should be considered, bearing in mind interactions with anti-epileptic medication and possibility of increased side effects.

Our findings emphasize the importance of early recognition and management of psychosis in epileptic patients. Unfortunately, there is lack of evidence for the use of antipsychotic medication in epileptic patients, since available studies pertain to populations with primary psychiatric disorders.

Emerging evidence in depressive phenotypes suggests that the breakdown of the blood brain barrier (BBB) andhigh levels of inflammatory cytokines in states of persistent stress or traumatic experiences may contribute to its pathophysiology. Ultra-high field MRI may aid in the radiological detection of maladaptations of the glymphatic system related to BBB integrity that may not be visualized at lower field strengths.

We aimed to investigate the link between glymphatic neuroanatomy in the form of perivascular spaces (PVS) and trauma experience in patients with major depressive disorder.

We examined PVS’s in patients with major depressive disorder and in healthy controls using 7-Tesla MRI and a semi-automated segmentation algorithm.

After controlling for age and gender, we found that the number of traumatic life events experienced was positively correlated with total PVS volume in MDD patients (r= 0.50, p= 0.028) and the overall population (r= 0.34, p= 0.024). Furthermore, the number of traumatic events eliciting fear, helplessness, or horror was positively correlated with total PVS volume in MDD patients (r= 0.50, p= 0.030) and the overall population (r= 0.32, p= 0.023). As expected, age correlated positively with PVS count (r= 0.37, p= 0.013), PVS total volume (r= 0.53, p< 0.001), and PVS density (r= 0.68, p< 0.001 in all participants.

These results suggest a relationship between glymphatic dysfunction potentially related to BBB integrity and psychological trauma in patients with depression, and suggest that glymphatic impairment may play a role in trauma-related symptomatology.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced many countries to apply restrictive measures. During the first wave Portugal went through a lockdown, and all the child and adolescents had to stay home and could only contact with the one’s they lived with for several months.

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of those restrictions on suicidal ideation in the pediatric population evaluated in a child and adolescent psychiatry emergency care of a tertiary referral hospital.

We conducted an exploratory retrospective study. All the data from discharge notes were collected between March 15th and June 15th of 2020 (n=59), and in the homologous period of the previous year (n=178). The referral after evaluation (primary care, child and adolescent psychiatry consultation, inpatient unit) was considered a measure of severity.

The demographic variables (sex, age) were homogeneous between the two groups (p ≥ 0,05). 17,4% (n=31) of the sample from 2019, and 16,9% (n=10) of the sample of 2020 had suicidal ideation, which was not statistically different between groups (p=1,000). The referral, after evaluation between groups were also not statistically different (p=0,186).

Even though the proportion of patients with suicidal ideation was homogenous during the two periods, the total number of patients evaluated in the emergency room were lower during the first wave of Covid-19 pandemic. We assume that the population had fear of seeking help in hospital facilities, but we also believe that the pause on school burdens and the reconnection between some families could have function as protective factors.

The main factors that are involved in a correct adherence to the therapeutic recommendations in Bipolar Disorder includes aspects related to age, sex, ethnicity, socioeconomic level and characteristics of the illness associated with the severity, comorbidity and adverse effects related to previous medicine.

To analyse the individual perception that the patient with Bipolar Disorder has regarding the positive and negative aspects of taking the recommended medication.

Descriptive and interpretative observational study under the qualitative paradigm of research, extracting the data through the completion of four focus groups with ten patients everyone. To complete the codification of the content of the participant’s discourses, we rely on the QRS NVivo 10 computer program.

In the participant’s discourse concerning the main barriers to pharmacological treatment, for example “It’s because we live in a society and, because of that, we don’t go without medicine; if we didn’t live in society, we wouldn’t take medicine because we wouldn’t bother anyone”. Some examples of patient’s discourse, about perceived facilitators were: “I have to take medicine for my bipolar disorder, that’s it, I have a treatment, my illness has a name”.

The main facilitators regarding the use of pharmacological treatment in Bipolar Disorder are the perceived need for treatment in the acute phase and the recognition of the illness, the shared clinical decision and the causal biological attribution in the chronic phase. About perceived barriers, social control is identified in both phases, adverse effects in the acute cases and the absence of effective treatment in the chronic state.

Schizophrenia is one of the most severe mental disorders. Haloperidol and other first-generation antipsychotics are widely used for schizophrenia treatment, but have prominent side effects, primarily extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS). The EPS severity is highly variable and may be underlied by genetic factors.

We performed a prospective study to test the association of DRD2/ANKK1 Taq1A polymorphism (rs18000497) and CYP2D6 phenotype, predicted from genotypes using 8 CYP2D6 alleles (*3, *4, *5, *6,*9, *10,*41, xN) with EPS severity during haloperidol treatment in schizophrenia spectrum disorders patients.

57 inpatients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (42,1% females; mean age - 46,7±11,8 y.o (M±SD) of European ancestry were enrolled in the study. Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS), Barnes Akathisia Rating Scale (BARS), Simpson-Angus Scale (SAS) were used to assess EPS on two timepoints: day 1 and day 21 of haloperidol treatment.

TaqIA T-allele carriers in contrast to wild-type allele homozygous patients had higher scores of BARS (p=0.029) and SAS (p=0.024) on day 21. After stratification by CYP2D6 phenotype, these differences were observed only in extensive metabolizers (p=0.006 and p=0.001 respectively), although the CYP2D6 phenotype itself was not associated with EPS severity. The combined effect of TaqIA T allele with CYP2D6 extensive phenotype on BARS score on day 21 was confirmed by General Linear Model (p=0.013).

Our results show that minor TaqIA T-allele is associated with the severity of EPS after 3 weeks of haloperidol treatment only in CYP2D6 extensive metabolizers. That highlights the importance of using both pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic genetic markers in pharmacogenetic EPS risk assessment.

It is clear from the literature that depressive disorder is closely related to lifestyle, however the relationship between burnout and lifestyle remains unclear.

The aim of this study was to present a comprehensive overview of depressive symptoms, burnout and lifestyle over the years. Furthermore, this study looks at the relationship between burnout, depressive symptomatology and lifestyle and seeks to clarify the extent to which burnout can be explained by these variables.

Data collection took place in three waves. The first data collection was in 2014 (October/November), the second in 2017 (March) and the third in 2020 (March). The STEM/MARK agency conducted the data collection and collected answers from a representative sample of respondents using the CAWI method - computer-assisted questioning. These respondents were selected from the European National Panel. Because the target group was adults (18-65 years), an online survey was chosen. Internet penetration in this target population is sufficient and it was not necessary to use a combination of methodologies.

All 3 data collections identically show that for the model explaining burnout statistically significant variables are: age, depression and fatigue during the day. Other variables related to healthy lifestyles did not reach statistical significance.

Even though the variables regarding healthy lifestyles have not reached statistical significance, their importance should not be underestimated. Mental well-being is closely linked to physical health and therefore a holistic approach to health should be emphasized and the rate of burnout should be regularly monitored.

Web-based tools allowed the provision of psychological counseling and therapy at-distance during the COVID-19 lockdown. Nevertheless, psychologists’ attitudes towards the adoption of these tools and its impact in their professional practices need to be further explored.

The objective was to study the use of web-based tools on psychological practices before and during COVID-19 lockdown, trying to identify changes on psychologists’ professional practices related to the pandemic, as well as to explore factors that could have affected such changes.

One-hundred and eight psychologists filled-in an online survey, developed for the purposes of this study, during mandatory lockdown. The study was disseminated by mailing list, social networks, and by the Portuguese Psychologists Association.

The results have shown that psychologists kept providing their services during lockdown thanks to the adoption of web-based tools. Although psychologists have recognized that additional precautions were needed for at-distance practice in comparison to in-person interventions, the experience of using IC technologies in clinical practice was described as positive, ensuring clients’ adherence with positive results. Additionally, despite psychological services were maintained on a larger scale by psychologists with more years of experience, professionals with average experience stated more favorable attitudes towards the use of web-based tools in counseling and therapy.

Although the implementation of ICT based practice was enforced by current circumstances, the experience that psychologists gathered and shared during the lockdown can guide future professional practice, improving and fostering the replication of best practices at distance.

Restraint theory (Herman and Polivy, 1975) suggests that human eating behaviour is under cognitive control and this leads to reduced sensitivity to internal cues for satiety, resulting in overeating in situations where cognitive control is under-mined (Johnson et al., 2012). In other words, restraint theory suggests that restraint (dieting) actually leads to leads to an excessive intake of food.

The present study sought to investigate the relationship between dieting, eating behaviours (uncontrolled eating, emotional eating, cognitive restraint) and rumination (repetitive negative thinking). The second objective was to determine whether rumination mediates the relationship between dieting and both uncontrolled eating and emotional eating.

The sample was composed of 188 women (Mage = 29.46 ± 8.94; MBMI = 23.16 ± 4.04). The Eating Attitudes Test, the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire and the Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire were used in the present study.

Dieting for weight control (intentional weight loss) was associated with higher levels of uncontrolled eating, emotional eating, cognitive restraint and repetitive negative thinking. Mediation analyses showed that the relationship between dieting and inappropriate eating behaviours was mediated by rumination. The direct effect of dieting on both uncontrolled eating and emotional eating was significant, suggesting partial mediation.

Our findings support the relevance of rumination in linking dieting and eating behaviours among women. The current study may have clinical applications such as the potential integration of rumination for the prevention and changes in inappropriate eating behaviours.

Obesity is one of the leading problems of today’s society. According to WHO, 650 million people worldwide are obese, which is 13% of total population (in Croatia 21.5%). There are various psychodynamic theories that interpret the psychological aspects of obesity.

The aim of this paper is to present psychodynamic and contemporary psychiatric concepts that explain the interrelated phenomena presenting in obese patients.

The review of the literature included the investigation of the existing studies in the field of modern psychiatry, as well as previous knowledge in the field of psychodynamics.

Obesity is associated with the emptiness of not recognizing one’s own emotions from hunger, and the need for constant replacement. The everyday life of the obese is filled with shame, an uncomfortable perception that is so intense that can be unbearable. The emptiness and shame which overwhelm and create discomfort cannot be fulfilled by constant food intake and are associated with pathological narcissism (grandiose or vulnerable), which in turn is associated with more regressive behaviour. Thus, obesity may sometimes be associated with addictive behaviours, and a cognition that a bad pattern of rewarding behaviour through food has been adopted in parallel with poor self-control.

Relationship between psychodynamic phenomena and obesity is complex and multidimensional. Further research is needed in order to ameliorate our understanding of these connections.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder. Its underlying causes and pathophysiologies remain unclear. Recent data support the potential involvement of neuroinflammation in the onset of this disorder.

The aim of our study was to investigate the potential link between ASD and inflammatory mediators.

This descriptive study was conducted among ASD outpatients followed-up at the child and adolescent psychiatry department in the Military Hospital of Instruction of Tunis. Blood samples were collected for inflammatory cytokines dosage, notably the interleukin 1β (IL-1β), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and the Tumor Necrosis Factor α (TNF-α) immunodosage.

Twenty-four patients were included in this study, aged between four and ten years old (mean age= 6,55 years; minimum=4; maximum=10 years). Our sample was mainly represented by male patients (95,6%). TNF-α plasmatic levels were high (>5pg/mL) among all of our sample with a mean of 11,6 pg/mL (minimum= 6,87; maximum=17,7 pg/mL; standard deviation= 3,52 pg/mL), suggesting abnormal peripheral blood mononuclear cells response. However, IL-1β and IL-6 plasmatic levels were relatively normal.

An immune response dysregulation was detected in our sample. Multiple clinical and experimental studies investigated the implication of inflammatory cytokines in neurodevelopmental disruption. Their results, however, remain controversial and limited by small samples. Further studies need to be done in order to investigate the neuroimmunological factors linked with ASD.

Previous studies about relationship between personality factors and stress related processes mainly focus on relation between these factors and application of coping strategies.

This study expanded previous research by examining the combined contribution of personality traits (NEO-FFI) and coping strategies (Brief COPE) in the prediction of stress, depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms (DASS-21), and psychological well-being (WHO-5) among undergraduate nursing students.

This cross-sectional study was performed in 2017. Participants of this study were 75 nursing students (men=37, women=38) from one Portuguese School of Health Sciences. The students who agreed to participate filled out an informed consent. Then the questionnaires were administered in a random order to avoid order effects in the data.

Regarding personality, women reported higher conscientiousness and agreeableness than men. There were no gender differences in coping. Among men, openness and agreeableness (inversely) and neuroticism predicted stress. In women, neuroticism and venting predicted stress. Regarding depression, conscientiousness and extraversion (inversely) and neuroticism were predictors for men, whereas neuroticism, self-blame, and denial were predictors for women. Conscientiousness and extraversion (inversely) and venting and denial predicted anxiety in men, as did neuroticism and venting in women. For well-being, conscientiousness and extraversion were predictors among men; neuroticism and seeking instrumental support (inversely) and extraversion were predictors among women. Personality traits dominated the prediction of distress and well-being in men, while both personality and coping were predictors in women.

These findings indicate that it is not the degree of each personality trait or coping strategy but the pattern of relationship between these phenomena and psychological outcomes that is of relevance. The results could inform gendered preventive and treatment interventions for college students.

Children affected by social neglect and other forms of abuse are at significant risk of developing mental health problems as well as social, academic, and behavioral functioning difficulties. Some studies have assessed the effectiveness of treatment for children with trauma-attachment disorder. Nevertheless, some questions remain to be answered regarding appropriate treatment.

Aim This research identified how filial therapy affects the extent to which foster parents are responsive, sensitive, and attentive to the needs of their children in their care. Subsequently, the study explored how this bond, influenced during filial therapy, affects the signs and symptoms of disinhibited social engagement disorder.

Method This study used case study as the methodology to research the influence of filial therapy (CPRT) in foster children who show the symptoms of disinhibited social engagement disorder- aged three to six. Two sets of foster parents received a 10-session filial therapy model (CPRT) across 10 weeks. Pre and post measures of the parent-child relationship were analyzed.

Result The findings indicate that filial therapy greatly enhances the bond between foster parents and children with DSEDs. Moreover, these improvements in the bond diminished the symptoms of disinhibited social engagement disorder.

Conclusion The impact of filial therapy as a responsive intervention reduced the symptoms of disinhibited social engagement disorder. The symptoms have declined very likely as a result of rebuilding, regenerating, and enhancing the relationship between foster children and foster parents.

Music has been said to be emotion’s language. Research confirms a link between music structure and triggered emotions.

To assess the relationship between selected music excerpts and the emotions trigged, in order that the former will be used in future research.

An anonymous study was performed in April 2019 on 65 subjects of both sexes, aged 19- 33 (mean=21,09; SD=3,05).Subjects listened 4 excerpts of music, believed to be related either to excitement or to calmness, and answered to a questionary on emotion’s triggered by each exposure.

Regarding to the music excerpts that were believed to induce excitement 80% of the subjects mentioned exciting emotions, 78% enjoyed the music while 78% didn’t knew them. For the ones that were believed to induce calmness 69% of the subjects mentioned calm emotions, 84% enjoyed the music and 62% didn’t knew the music. In an excerpt of music related to calmness, we observed association between knowing the music and the emotion trigged (p=0,027). The triggered emotion responses were independent of liking the music (P>0,05).

In our study, independent of liking the music, the participants reported to have perceived the expected emotions triggered by musical excerpts, showing this to be a phenomenon related to music structure. Calmness perception may be also influenced by previous knowledge of the music and related experiences. The role of individual perceptions will be looked for in following studies.

In the United States, students who attend early-entrance to college programs (EECP) undergo a unique, accelerated educational path. Many of these programs require students to forego their final years of high school to take dual-enrollment classes while residing on a college campus. While previous literature has documented mental health outcomes among traditional college and high school student populations, there is scarce literature on the mental health among this hybrid population in the United States.

Investigate anxiety and depression among students enrolled in EECPs in the United States.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 item (GAD-7) and Patient Health Questionnaire-8 item (PHQ-8) were asked in 3 sets for how students felt before, during, and after their attendance in their EECP.

66 alumni students who graduated from an EECP were surveyed after giving informed consent. GAD-7 average scores before the students attended was 4.83 (median = 4, “mild anxiety”), during attendance was to 11.5 (median = 12, “moderately-severe anxiety”), and currently was 6.95 (median = 6, “moderate anxiety”). PHQ-8 scores for depression before attending were 5.1 (median = 4, “mild to potentially moderate depression”, during the program 10.9 (median 11.5, “moderately severe depression”), and current PHQ-8 was 16 (median = 16, “severe depression”).

Anxiety and depression seem to have a presence in this student population, compared to traditional college student populations, but different compared to international cohorts. Academic rigor was a notable driving force of these outcomes, differing from the literature on traditional college student populations.

Patients with dissociative identity disorder (DID) present two or more identities. Although it is a widely questioned diagnosis, it is currently found in the main DSM-5 and ICD-10 diagnostic manuals. So far there is no standard psychopharmacological treatment for people with this pathology.

Describe the pharmacological treatment associated with the clinical evolution of a patient with DID.

Follow-up was carried out in a mental health center for a year, undergoing psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment. The information is taken from the medical history.

The patient presents with anxious and depressive symptoms. She was referred from primary care with 50mg sertraline without response. Dose was increased to 100mg without response. New management started with desvenlafaxine 100mg, associated with lorazepam, partially reducing the symptoms. Later, the patient presented self-referentiality, sounding of thought, began to describe frequent memory losses and a rebound in anxiety-depression symptoms, increasing the dose of desvenlafaxine to 200mg and introducing haloperidol to 1.5mg. Three months later, she presented showing another identity, active, aggressive, pythiatic, without evident anxious symptoms that she previously presented in a marked way. Desvenlafaxine was adjusted to 100mg and haloperidol to 0.5mg every 12 hours. The patient evolved favorably, decreasing anxiety, depressive symptoms and memory loss, in addition to disappearing psychotic symptoms. This treatment was sustained, keeping the patient psychopathological and functional stability and allowing a psychotherapeutic approach.

Treatment with desvenlafaxine and haloperidol was favorable to maintain clinical stability and allow other therapeutic approaches.High dose of antidepressant could favor the expression of another identity of the patient.

The prevalence of mental disorders (MD) is greater in children; however, they are the population with less help-seeking and access to mental health-care services (MHS).

To explore the characteristics of help-seeking and access to specialized MHS in children with MD.

A cross-sectional study was carried out from 2018 to 2019, in the Children’s Psychiatric Hospital and National Institute of Psychiatry in Mexico City. Sample 397 children and 397 caregivers. The project was approved by the Ethics Committee of both institutions. The patient’s family member was questioned on sociodemographic data and help-seeking to MHS. Sample’s descriptive statistics applying measures of central tendency, Inferential statistics with t-test for differences in means between groups (diagnosis), and one-way ANOVA to variables associated with the help-seeking to MHS.

Children´s sample: 37% female, average age 12 years (SD± 3.6), 51% had diagnosis of hyperkinetic disorder (HD), 34% depressive disorder (DD). The children´s age at the time of seeking healthcare was different according to the diagnosis: DD 10.1 (SD ± 4.5) and HD 6.95 (SD ± 3.4), (T = -3.18, p = 0.000); and by sex: girls 10.9 (SD ± 4.5), boys 7.85 (SD ± 4.0); (T = -3.07, p = 0.000). The mother was the first person to notice the symptoms.

The search for MHS differs by sex, diagnosis and family history; it is necessary to design mental health interventions considering gender-based differences, namely, to integrate a gender perspective.

Nonhuman primates (NHPs) are critical for translational research due to their close genetic, physiological, and behavioral similarity to humans. In particular, higher brain functions depend on brain regions and neural circuits that evolved differently between primates and rodents. Thus, NHPs are a strong translational model system to investigate the pathophysiology and relevant biological correlates of mental disorders. This talk will focus on translational approaches leveraging NHP models to advance our understanding of environmentally induced epigenetic changes in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Environmental factors including early life stress significantly contribute to risk and resilience for psychiatric disorders including PTSD. However, human studies are often confounded, and it remains challenging to identify robust epigenetic signals in clinical populations even in large studies. We investigate the natural spectrum of behavioral phenotypes in rhesus macaques to complement human studies with a focus on stress and fear. This talk will present data on epigenetic signatures of fear and the effects of early life stress in rhesus monkeys and their relationship to human studies.

Psychiatric staff could be exposed to various types of violence that might have potential consequences on their psychological balance.

To detect post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). To assess the professional quality of life among psychiatric hospital workers.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the psychiatric department of the Hedi Chaker University Hospital in Sfax. The questionnaire study had three major components: the baseline participant characteristics,the post-traumatic stress disorder Checklist (PCL-5) for which a total symptom severity score cutoff of 38 was recommended as the cutoff for a positive screening test and the Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL).

Thirty-one participants completed the questionnaire. The sex-ratio was 0.93. The mean age was 41.5 years. All participants were exposed to physical or verbal assault. Physical aggression was the most traumatic behavior reported by 39.3% of psychiatric professionals. A feeling of insecurity when performing professional tasks was reported by 93.3% of participants. Among participants, 41.9% expressed the desire to change workplace. The mean score on the PCL-5 was 21.6 ± 15.35. Five participants (16.7%) had a PCL-5 score ≥ 38. The Compassion Satisfaction mean score was 37.48 ± 5.64. The burnout mean score was 26.41 ± 7.3 and the mean score at the secondary traumatic stress scale was 27 ±6.7.

PTSD could result from stressful events encountered in the course of managing patients in mental health departments. Attention to post-traumatic event interventions may be useful both to reduce the rate of PTSD and to improve the professional quality of life among psychiatric staff.
