Borderline Personality Disorder is defined from its impulsivity issues regarding relationships, abandonment and rejection issues and emotional regulation problems. This personality disorder issue are hard to treat and often related to poor treatment outcomes. Nonetheless, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy stands as a great therapeutical approach that can be adapted.

We tested a 6-month CBT protocol (ECCCLORE)-3 modules respectively working on emotion regulation, distress tolerance and relationships- in a French context to compare its effectiveness to treatment as Usual (TAU).

We recruited 56 patients suffering from BPD, 34 receiving ECCCLORE treatment and 22 receiving TAU. We assessed BPD traits, impulsivity with UPPS, aggressiveness with AQ12, Suicidal risk with SBQr and Hopelessness with H.

Our results revealed the effectiveness of this 6 months DBT adaptation for decreasing BPD traits and most of clinical dimensions. The dynamic analysis revealed the mediating effect of AQ12.

Shortened treatment protocol are effective for reducing symptoms. Further research is needed to replicate these results.

Both the COVID-Anxiety Scale and the Fear of Coronavirus-19 Scale have been recently developed to facilitate research on COVID-19 anxiety.

To examine the psychometric properties of Russian translations of the COVID-Anxiety Scale and the Fear of Coronavirus-19 Scale.

In order to examine the psychometric properties of Russian translations of the COVID-Anxiety Scale and the Fear of Coronavirus-19 Scale, a total of 341 Russian adults completed both measures.

First, a high level of COVID-19 anxiety was found in the sample. Second, confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that the Russian translations of both the COVID-Anxiety Scale and the Fear of Coronavirus-19 Scale had satisfactory psychometric properties, with both scales having a hypothesised one-factor structure. Third, a significant positive association was found between both the COVID anxiety scales. Fourth, higher COVID anxiety scores were associated with being female, and being older.

These findings provide initial evidence for the satisfactory properties of the Russian translations of the COVID-Anxiety Scale and the Fear of Coronavirus-19 Scale. Further research is suggested that examines the prevalence and psychological correlates of COVID-19 anxiety.

88 men, with alcohol withdrawal syndrome accompanied by delirium; the average age - 70,4 ± 3,9 years, duration of alcohol abuse - 27,4 ± 6,5 years.

The psychoses in patients with dependence of alcohol are in many cases polyethiologic, this is especially common in elderly due to accumulation of various somato-neurological pathologies. One of such factors is alcohol dependence syndrome and alcohol withdrawal. ICD-10 allows sharing out delirium with mixed etiology F05.8; this category can include patients when there is a severe alcohol withdrawal condition and somato-neurological pathology that can be an independent factor in the delirious syndrome. 88 elderly patients with were examined in state of alcohol withdrawal. All patients had delirious syndrome. Patients were divided into 2 groups: 1st – patients with a condition of alcohol withdrawal with delirium; 2nd - patients with a delirium of mixed etiology (the factor of the presence of dyscirculatory encephalopathy, was considered a competing factor in the onset of delirium). Some differential-diagnostic signs of the studied disorders were established. In the case of prolongation of psychosis, the clinical picture was similar in both groups, which was explained by exacerbation of the existing somatic pathology.

Estimation of the leading factor in the emergency of acute psychosis in patients with alcohol withdrawal syndrome is of great practical importance for selection of therapeutic tactics.

Immune cells are dysfunctional during long-term ethanol consumption and may contribute to the progression from healthy to problem drinking. Lymphocytes from mice with chronic ethanol exposure characterized by impaired functional activity, manifested in the combination of increased spontaneous proliferation against the background of low sensitivity to T- cell mitogens.

We first demonstrated that original compound meta-chloro-benzhydryl-urea (m-ch-BHU) in vitro restored long-term alcoholized mice lymphocytes activity through GABA(A) receptors. We also revealed the possibility of animal’s behavioral regulation by the transplantation of immune cells with definite functional characteristics, also modulated by psychoactive drugs. Based on the previous results we investigated effects of m-ch-BHU modulated lymphocytes transplantation in recipients with experimental alcoholism.

Male (CBAxC57Bl/6)F1 mice with 6-month 10% ethanol exposure were undergoing the transplantation of syngeneic long-term alcoholized mice lymphocytes, pretreated in vitro with m-ch-BHU. Recipient’s ethanol consumption, nervous and immune systems functional activities were estimated.

It was shown that transplantation of lymphocytes with in vitro m-ch-BHU modulated functional activity caused in syngeneic recipients with chronic alcohol exposure essential ethanol consumption decrease and stimulation of motor and exploratory activities in the “open field” against the background of cytokines modulation in brain. The significant stimulation of humoral immune response, estimated by the relative number of antibody-forming spleen cells, and stimulation of DTH reaction were also detected in recipients after lymphocytes transplantation.

Results demonstrated that transplantation of m-ch-BHU modulated lymphocytes caused positive psychoneuroimmunomodulating effect in animals with chronic alcohol exposure, so, it may be considered as a promising method in the treatment of alcoholism

According to Vygotsky, children with special needs follow the same trajectory of development as normally developing children, although some of the skills can be observed in a later period. This statement can be implemeted to the children with Down syndrome. The number of such children in Russia is around 25 thousand.

The aim is to study the conditions of negation formation in children with Down syndrome.

The sample consisted of 22 dyads of children with Down syndrome of 24-36 months old and their mothers. The research methods included: parents’ questionnaire; analysis of problematic situations; Tkacheva’s inventory Parent’s Psychological Type; Varga &Stolin Inventory of Parental Attitude; Toronto Alexithymia Scale, Bass-Darky Hostility Questionnaire, Leonhard-Schmieschek Test, Spielberger’s Test Anxiety Inventory.

Firstly, we have studied how a child expresses his or her negative reaction: whether he or she uses a gesture or a sound for “no” or reacts with the whole body. According to those results we have divided the sample into two groups and then have compared them. The research shows the connection between mother’s aggressiveness and formation of the child’s negation reaction (gesture/sound or the whole body) as well as differences in the level of alexithymia and anxiety: all the characteristics are lower in the first group.

Mothers of the children with Down syndrome demonstrate a high and a medium level of anxiety. However, the mothers of the children who expresses negation with a gesture/sound show a lower anxiety level comparing with the mothers whose children react with the whole body.

The confinement associated with COVID-19 pandemic was an experience with significant physical and mental health implications, including higher stress levels, decreased sleep quality, pain symptoms and changes in lifestyle behaviours.

The main goal of this study was to analyze the relationship between stress and health variables (sleep, health symptoms, health perception, and lifestyle behaviours) in a Portuguese university during COVID-19 home confinement.

A cross-sectional online survey design was conducted. A sample of 263 Portuguese workers (64.3% females), with mean age of 48.3 years (sd=8.9), filled in the PSS10, answering questions concerning health symptoms (perceived health, pain symptoms and fatigue), lifestyle behaviours (sleep and eating habits, use of alcohol and tobacco) during COVID-19 home confinement. A descriptive statistical analysis, a Pearson correlation analyses and the t Student test, for independent samples, were performed.

The results showed significant correlations between stress and perceived health (r=-.404; p<.0001), arms pain (r=.212; p=.002), legs pain (r=.201; p=.003), back pain (r=.219; p=.001), headache (r=.289; p<.0001) and fatigue (r=.295; p<.0001). Concerning lifestyle behaviours, the results showed significant correlations between stress and sleep (r=-.552; p<.0001) and stress is significantly higher (p<.0001) in individuals who have changed their eating habits.

During the COVID-19 home confinement, higher stress levels are associated with a worse perception of health, more pain symptoms (legs, arms, back, headache), worse sleep quality and more fatigue. Moreover, the individuals with higher levels of stress have changed their eating habits. Lastly, health promotion interventions are needed in order to minimize the impact of home confinement in health.

Oncologic patients with schizophrenia have a higher mortality, which could be explained by a delayed diagnosis and a poor quality of the oncologic treatment (1). Some of the potential reasons are related with patient’s psychopathology, stigma, and barriers in access to medical care. An structured support during the oncologic treatment has been proposed to solve the difficulties that patients with schizophrenia can experience when handling with an oncologic process. (2).

To illustrate two approaches for cancer accompaniment in patients with schizophrenia.

We present two case-report and literature research of the topic.

Case A. A 49 y.o. woman diagnosed with a schizoaffective disorder. In the last years she had difficulties to manage her selfcare, so her mental health providers linked her to an individualized community nurse, who later played a crucial role in helping the patient during the diagnosis and treatment of a breast cancer. Case B. A 37 y.o. man diagnosed with schizophrenia, who was very integrated in a peer-support organization. After being diagnosed with a Lymphoma, he continued participating in all the group activities (theatre, collaborative radio, painting) until his decease. Sharing the process with other patients not only improved his quality of life but also helped the group to manage the grief.

- Individualized support with a mental health nurse could enhance the communication between the oncologist and mental health providers, improve the symptoms management, and allow psychological support. - Peer-support can prevent social isolation, improve the quality of life and the management of the oncologic treatment.

The first stage of interdisciplinary studying (EEG, IQ, immunology, psychology, neuropsychology) of cognitive development of children with IVF, conducting at the Mental Health Research Center (Moscow, Russia) is presenting. A small number of studies analyzing the cognitive development of children in a wide age range, determined the design of this study.

Assessment of the capabilities of the neuropsychological approach in qualifying the cognitive development of children with IVF.

20 children aged 7 to 15 years old, born with IVF, studying in school. Neuropsychological diagnosis according to A.R. Luria-L.S.Tsvetkova. All participants signed voluntary consent to participate in the study.

1. Neuropsychological approach and methods of neuropsychological diagnostics are effective in qualifying the neurocognitive development of children with IVF 2. The overwhelming majority of the examined children (90%) had energy factor dysfunction (at the level of brain stem structures in 65%, at the level of diencephalic structures in 82%, combined disorders at both levels in 52%) 3. Regulatory inhibitory control (impulse control - suppression of the dominant reaction) was impaired (functionally unformed) in 58% of the subjects 4. A gross violation of the kinetic factor was found in 46% of the examined children and adolescents IVF 5. The development of speech and visual memory is variable.

The conclusions are preliminary and require testing on a wider sample of children born because of IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies. It is necessary to study the functional state of other neuropsychological factors, to expand the number of participants.

In bipolar patients cognitive deficits are an important feature. Persisting neurocognitive impairment is associated with low psychosocial functioning.

The aim of this presentation is to discuss potential cognitive, clinical and treatment-dependent predictors for functional impairment in bipolar patients.

In a first study (1) at the Medical University of Vienna 43 remitted bipolar patients and 40 healthy controls were assessed testing specifically attention, memory, verbal fluency and executive functions. In a randomized controlled trial, patients were assigned to two treatment conditions as add-on to state-of-the-art pharmacotherapy: cognitive psychoeducational group therapy over 14 weeks or treatment-as-usual. At 12 months after therapy, functional impairment and severity of symptoms were assessed. In a second, ongoing study, in-patients from a defined catchment area in Vienna (12th, 13th and 23rd district) were assessed via SCIP (Purdon S. 2005. The screen for cognitive impairment in psychiatry: Administration and psychometric properties. Edmonton, Alberta, Canada: PNL Inc.). The SCIP was performed before and after cognitive remediation. The effects of treatment on functioning were measured with the clinical Global Impression Scale (CGI).

Compared to controls, bipolar patients showed lower performance in executive function, sustained attention, verbal learning and verbal fluency. Cognitive psychoeducational group therapy and attention predicted occupational functioning. In the second study, SCIP and CGI values showed improvement after treatment.

Patients with schizophrenia have increased cardiovascular and suicide risk. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is widespread in this group, however, there are no unambiguous data on the relationship between the separate components of metabolic syndrome and suicide risk.

To examine the relationship between the separate components of the MetS and suicide risk in patients with schizophrenia.

We examined 64 patients with schizophrenia. All patients received antipsychotic therapy in doses comparable in chlorpromazine equivalents. We measured serum levels of lipids, glucose and insulin. The visceral fat level was determined through the non-invasive bioimpedance analysis with an “Omron BF508” scale and body composition monitor. Suicide risk was assessed using Beck Hopelessness Inventory. There were identified two groups of examined: with MetS and without MetS. In both groups were distinguished two subgroups: patients with normal range of hopelessness and patients with mild and moderate hopelessness. Subgroups were compared among themselves for a number of anthropometric, biochemical and clinical indicators. Statistical analysis was conducted using Mann-Whitney U-test. Reliability level corresponded to p<0.05. This study was supported by a grant from the Russian Science Foundation 18-15-00011.

Waist circumference, body weight and BMI in subgroup with normal hopelessness range in the group of patients with MetS were significantly higher (figure 1).

We were able to establish a negative relationship between the waist circumference, body weight and BMI with suicide risk in schizophrenia patients. It can be assumed that adipose tissue can play a “protective” role in the suicidal behavior of schizophrenia patients.

Individuals with affective disorders, who are prone to negative cognitive bias, may be particular vulnerable to positively biased presentations by other social media users. The degree of positive bias in self-presentations on social media sites is however poorly understood

To investigate the validity of self-presentation on social media sites and its association with affective disorder

Individuals aged 18-75 receiving treatment at the outpatient clinic for affective disorders at Aarhus Hospital or at two general practices were invited to participate in a survey focusing on social media use. Two core questions were: “To what extent do your social media content reflect your real life” and ”To what extent do others’ social media content reflect their real lives”. Response was provided on a likert scale with the following steps: “much more negative” (1), “more negative” (2), “the same as” (3), “more positive” (4) and “much more positive” (5) than real life. Based on these responses on bias, we calculated a bias ratio (validity of own self-presentation/validity of others’ self-presentation). The association between unipolar depression, bipolar disorder and bias ratio>1 was investigated using logistic regression with adjustment for age and sex

A total of 183 individuals with unipolar depression, 119 with bipolar disorder and 186 controls participated in the study. Unipolar depression was associated with a bias ratio >1 (OR: 3.4, 95%CI: 1.2;9.9)

Individuals with unipolar depression are prone to consider their self-presentation as more positively biased compared to others’ self-presentation. This may shape the impact of social media use on these individuals.

The medical case report (CR) is a vital and viable medical genre with a history of more than 3000 years. With a few exceptions, the CR has had a typical format that has been consistent with the ideals of brevity, conciseness, and a matter-of-fact approach. CR in general and psychiatric CR especially, may benefit from more systematically emphasising and integrating relevant biopsychosocial (BPS) aspects.

To discuss how to emphasise and integrate the BPS perspective in the CR.

Drawing on CR literature and our own experience as CR authors, we discuss how a broader BPS approach successfully can be included in the CR format.

Some central factors that could be considered when including a BPS perspective in the CR are: 1) Actively eliciting the patient’s perspective and including this in the final report. 2) Including relevant information about the life and circumstances of the patient beyond the basic demographic information. 3) Making an effort to preserve the patient’s privacy also when more BPS information is included. The psychological and social constituents of the patient’s life should be central in the BPS-inspired psychiatric CR.

The traditional CR has a long-standing history in medicine and follows a typial conscise and brief format. ‘Hard facts’ and biological information have typically filled most of the text. We argue that giving psychological and social information more attention would improve the quality of many CR, and that this is especially relevant for psychiatric CR.

Decisions about use and safety of antipsychotic drugs during pregnancy it’s been a controversial issue in psychiatric practice because of the difficult finding the good choice, ethically and medically.

To provide an example of a real case to shed light about the psychopharmacological and ethical management of the situation helping a psychotic patient to make a voluntary decision.

Expose a clinical case of a patient in a psychiatric institution for several psychotic symptoms who we discover she’s pregnant during her hospitalization and treatment process. She is a 36 years old single woman who shows disorganized maniac psychotic behavior including disinhibition, promiscuity, persecutory and symbolic delusional ideas, self-surrender and insomnia. She’s admitted against her will in a University Hospital, being transferred to a Psychiatric Hospital with risperidone (2mg/24h) and clonazepam 2mg (2mg/24h). She had a positive pregnant test. Receiving the patient, we made an updated bibliographical review about use of antipsychotic during pregnancy, consult with the patient’s family and hospital legal advice’s service and coordinate with Gynecology’s service. The patient was ambivalent about the decision conditioned by her symptoms.

We decide to optimize drugs to olanzapine (until 30mg/24h) during the first week not using mood stabilizers because of malformations risk, with a great amelioration of symptoms, experiencing a back to reality with a coherent speech and eutimia, deciding a voluntary interruption of pregnancy.

Psychosis in pregnancy can be a bioethical challenge wich must be management according to science (practice clinical guidelines point olanzapine as a choice to be considered) and woman’s will.

Suicide is an international public health problem and a leading cause of death for youth and adults, worldwide. Prevention efforts in health care systems create opportunities for identifying medical patients with occult suicidality. Detecting suicide risk among patients in medical settings can be a challenge, but successful suicide risk screening programs have been demonstrated in hospital settings.

This presentation will discuss how a suicide risk screening tool that was developed for the pediatric emergency department was tested and then implemented in other medical settings in order to leverage healthcare providers as partners in combating the public health crisis of youth suicide..

Implementation and quality improvement projects in various medical settings that have adapted the ASQ will be described. Effective management of pediatric patients that screen positive for suicide risk and how mental health clinicians can best be utilized in efficient ways will also be discussed.

Average time to administer the ASQ was 20 seconds. Positive screen rates across ED, inpatient and outpatient settings ranging from 2-14% equating to one additional psychiatric consultation per week. The ASQ Toolkit was developed to help medical providers implement screening including scripts for nurses, flyers for parents and a brief suicide safety assessment (ASQ BSSA) to operationalize next steps for patients at risk.

The medical setting is a key venue for youth suicide risk detection and linking patients with effective interventions. Mental health clinicians have a role in guiding non-mental health providers in the identification and management of patients found to be at risk.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder often diagnosed between the ages of 7 and 10. The estimated prevalence of ADHD in adults is usually 2-5%, which means that in up to half of people this diagnosis persists into adulthood.

The aim of this sub-study was to determine whether there are significant differences in ADHD symptomatology between individuals who have taken or are taking prescription drugs and those who have never taken them.

Data collection was performed by STEM / MARK in January 2019 through the European National Panel. Respondents completed a demographic questionnaire focusing on the history of ADHD and a standardized ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS) questionnaire for the symptomatology of ADHD in adulthood.

Of the 1,518 respondents, 3% reported being diagnosed with ADHD / hyperkinetic disorder during their lifetime. According to the ASRS assessment, 119 respondents were classified as suspected ADHD. Overall, men scored higher symptoms of ADHD. The results also show that the group that states that taking medication has a statistically significantly higher average score in ASRS than unmedicated individuals. 6 individuals are taking medication to this day.

The data collected confirm our main hypothesis that ADHD symptomatology has an impact on the daily functioning of individuals in adulthood. Unlike peers with reduced or no ADHD symptoms, these people are far more likely to have time management issues, need to plan their day carefully, and yet often experience problems such as late arrivals due to a lack of anticipation.

Exercise has been repeatedly reported as an effective means of preventing and treating mood disorders. Therefore, there is a significant research interest for the way exercise is connected with depression and the effectiveness of different exercise parameters as intensity, duration and modality. There is significant research evidence supporting the hypothesis that exercise can alleviate the symptoms of clinical depression. Nevertheless, there has not enough evidence to compare the effectiveness of deferent types of exercise as complementary therapy in depression.

The purpose of the present study was to review the available research concerning the effect of exercise modality in depression and attempt to code and analyze the programs used in elderly (>65).

A systematic review was contacted of randomized control trials published in electronic journals. The electronic data bases PubMed, EBSCOhost and Trip Medical Database were used.

Combined programs are predominate used for improving mood in elderly and the combinations used more frequently was short-term, light to moderate sub maximal aerobic exercise combined with dynamic resistance exercise following by Short-term, light to moderate sub maximal aerobic exercise combined with static exercise. Other psychosocial factors that commonly included in the combined exercise programs are group interaction, mindfulness and music.

Combined exercise programs are as effective as simple programs in alleviated the symptoms of depression in elderly. Their advantages over simple programs are that they can promote other health benefits; they are less time consuming and more pleasurable to participants. Therefore, they are good exercise choice for elderly.

According to psychoanalytic theory performing circumcision on a boy in phallic phase may aggravate this fear and cause sexual dysfunctions later in life. However this hypothesis is an unverified common-view rather than a scientifically proven conclusion.

We hypothesized that being circumcised during phallic phase is not a risk factor for sexual dysfunction. We also took a peak at how the experience of circumcision is being perceived and its psychological effects. Our secondary hypothesis was, sexual dysfunctions are more frequent among men who had a traumatic circumcision experience.

For this cross-sectional study, a total of 2768 sexually active, circumcised and voluntary men were recruited from 20 different urology outpatient clinics around Turkey.

There was no significant difference for PEDT and IIEF scores between participants who were circumcised at different ages (Graph-1,2). When participants were divided into 3 groups according to their circumcision age in accordance with psychoanalytic theory (before, after and during phallic phase) mean IIEF and PEDT scores did not differ. PEDT scores did not differ either by which emotion the participant describe their experience of circumcision or how vividly he remembered it. However participants who remembered their circumcision experience more vividly and had who describe their circumcision experience with fear/anxiety had a higher IIEF score (Graph-3).

The age of circumcision does not affect the risk of PE. This is one of the very few studies that challenges psychoanalytic theory with a scientific method. Remembering the circumcision experience with fear or anxiety did not increase the risk of sexual dysfunctions.

Cluster B personality disorders are characterized by a higher prevalence of suicidal ideation and behavior than others, and Narcissistic Personality Disorder is no different. Very intense feelings of shame, intolerable for the individual, are often found in patients with Narcissistic Personality Disorder and may have a role in suicidal behavior.

To offer preliminary empirical evidences concerning the relationship between narcissism, shame and suicide ideation.

We administered Pathological Narcissism Inventory (PNI), Test of Self Conscious Affects (TOSCA) and Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation (BSI) to a sample of individuals with Suicide ideation (n= 65) and a sample of community participants (n=65).

Controlling for age and gender, in the merged sample we found that BSI scores correlated significantly with the vulnerable dimension of narcissism and with TOSCA Interpersonal Shame subscale. In the clinical sample, Interpersonal shame partially mediates the relationship between vulnerable narcissism and suicidal ideation.

Shame seems to play a key role in the relationship between the vulnerable facet of narcissism and suicidal ideation, although the profound mechanism by which it works remains to be understood. Future directions and clinical implications are discussed.

As a consequence of the impact of COVID-19 there are suggestions and projections that suicide rates will rise, although this is not inevitable. It is intriguing what impact it will have on Kosovo as a country with the lowest suicide rate in Europe.

The objective of this study was to understand the level of suicidal thinking as a result of the COVID-19 situation and possible associations with sociodemographic variables.

It’s a comparative study. We examined data of two cross-sectional online surveys conducted during the one-month periods 20.03.20 until 23.04.20 and 27.04.2020 until 05.06.2020. The participants were online respondents, N = 194 (first period) and N = 155 (second period); who completed the Albanian version of PHQ-9. We used the statement number 9 of questionnaire indicative of suicide.

Mean score of suicidal thinking resulted 0.58 (SD = .98) in the first period and 0.84 (SD = 1.16) in the second period. 10.1% of participants in March/April and 18.2% in May/June period scored that almost every day thoughts that would be better off dead, or of hurting yourself in some way. Significantly higher suicidal thinking resulted for females and for respondents who had previously had depression in both periods. Compared to two previous studies (2018 and 2019) in different settings only the results of the second period show an increase in suicidal thinking.

Further studies are needed to better scientifically elaborate these findings. It is important enhanced surveillance of COVID-19-related risk factors contributing to suicidal behaviors and timely preventive efforts.
