Accepted Manuscripts
This journal publishes Accepted Manuscripts online rapidly following acceptance (and receipt of final files and completed publishing agreements), allowing authors to make their work available to read and cite much more quickly. More information about Accepted Manuscripts can be found below.
What version of the article will be published?
The version of the article that is accepted by the Editor will be converted to PDF format and published online as is, before copy-editing or typesetting. The Accepted Manuscript will eventually be replaced with the final copy-edited and typeset Version of Record.
When will the Accepted Manuscript be published?
We aim to publish the Accepted Manuscript within 48 hours of final acceptance, provided we have received all final files and a completed publishing agreement.
How can I cite my Accepted Manuscript?
Your Accepted Manuscript will be given a DOI, which can be used to cite the manuscript. Citations should indicate that the manuscript is not the final version.
Are figures or tables included in the Accepted Manuscript?
If authors wish to include figures/tables within the published Accepted Manuscript, they will need to supply a clean version of the manuscript (as one file) with these figures/tables included, for the purposes of Accepted Manuscript publication. This clean version should be clearly named and have the figures/tables placed in the appropriate places within the article.
If any figures/tables are essential for readers to understand the manuscript, authors must provide a clean version of their manuscript with these figures/tables included.
Can I opt out of Accepted Manuscript publication?
Authors wishing to opt out of Accepted Manuscript publication must contact the Editorial Office before acceptance and no later than 24 hours after acceptance.
What happens if I want to make changes to my Accepted Manuscript?
You will still be able to make corrections to typographical errors in your proofs in the usual way, which will be incorporated into the final Version of Record. Proofs will be sent to you around two weeks after acceptance.
What licence will the Accepted Manuscript be published under?
A Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND licence will be applied to all Accepted Manuscripts published in this journal. If a different licence has been chosen for the final publication, this will be applied once the Accepted Manuscript has been replaced by the Version of Record.
Production
Once an article has been accepted, the process of copyediting, proofing, typesetting and publishing the article will begin. Authors will be asked to ensure all final files are submitted to Editorial Manager before the article can be sent to Cambridge University Press for production.
Your point of contact with Cambridge University Press will be the content manager of the journal. For more information about how production works at Cambridge University Press, please see our information on publishing an accepted paper, which explains how an article goes from accepted manuscript to fully published. There may be small differences between journals with this process. You can also check our Journal Production FAQs.
Once your article has been accepted, but before it can proceed into production, we need a signed licence to publish form. Further information about this may be found in the publishing agreement page.
FirstView
JFQA uses the FirstView system to publish articles online ahead of article assignment. For more details please see our FAQs.
Articles published online under the FirstView model are considered published, and have a DOI which can be used for citation. No further revisions can be made after FirstView publication of an article. Articles will later be assigned to an appropriate issue by the journal's Editor. Articles may appear in a different order in issues to the order they were published under FirstView.
Corrections
Changes cannot be made to articles once published either online in FirstView or as part of an issue. Any changes must be made via the standard process of issuing a correction notice. Please contact the Editorial Office and Content Manager for the journal if any error has been identified. The final decision on whether a correction notice should be published will be taken by the Publisher in consultation with the Editorial Team. For more information please refer to our FAQs.
If a manuscript has only been published as an Accepted Manuscript, you may still make corrections to typographical errors in your proofs in the usual way.
Once your article has been published, authors will receive a code which will provide perpetual access in both HTML and PDF formats.
