In the Planetarium of the city of Rosario the deaf and the hearing-impaired people could only perceive the visual elements of the show, such as the starry sky and the video images, which are meaningless without the narration. The technical team detected the problem and implemented a solution, adapting a particular show with a team of interpreters and a deaf person, with a low cost of development and arriving to great results.

In this study, we have investigated the stellar evolution models using the open-source software instrument Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics. We examine the evolution of angular momentum and the stability of mass transfer in the evolution of Algol-type binaries through the inner Lagrangian point via the Roche lobe overflow. Also, we have determined the ongoing challenge of chemical mixing and exhibit improvements that make easier the simulation of Algol-type binaries evolution.

In this work we derive stellar archaeology and kinematics of the central 400 pc of NGC 5643. The star formation history (SFH) reveals nuclear contribution of stellar populations older (20% older than 3.5 Gyr) and younger (60% younger than 320 Myr) as compared to the circumnuclear region. The [OIII] 5007 Å kinematics reveals the eastern ionization cone with an outflow (−60 km/s ⩽ v ⩽ 120 km/s).

The practice of preventive conservation of cultural heritage consists of “all measures and actions aimed at avoiding and minimizing future deterioration or loss” of it (ICOM-CC, 2008). Unlike conservation treatments, preventive conservation deals with entire collections and their surrounding environment. It is known that exposing historical objects to the environment has a significant impact on their degradation process. Studying and managing risk factors is an indispensable practice within the management policies of any cultural institution. The National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) holds some valuable historical collections, heritage derived from the Italian contribution to astronomy over the centuries. The management and protection of these collections faces many challenges. A preventive conservation plan, aimed at assessing and managing risks that threaten the collections, may offer many long-term benefits, allowing us to use available resources in the best possible way. In the past few years INAF-Astronomical Observatory “G.S.Vaiana” of Palermo has been working on the development of preventive conservation projects for its archival, bibliographic and scientific heritage. The present contribution reports on these ongoing experiences and intends to stimulate a discussion within the scientific community in order to individuate the problems we are called to respond to in Astronomical Observatories.

This paper studies the cosmology of accelerating expansion of the universe in modified teleparallel gravity theory. We discuss the cosmology of f(T, B) gravity theory and its implication to the new general form of the equation of state parameter wTB for explaining the late-time accelerating expansion of the universe without the need for the cosmological constant scenario. We examine the numerical value of wTB in different paradigmatic f(T, B) gravity models. In those models, the numerical result of wTB is favored with observations in the presence of the torsion scalar T associated with a boundary term B and shows the accelerating expansion of the universe.

In this work, we present preliminary results regarding the nuclear emission lines of a statistically complete sample of 56 early-type galaxies that are part of the Deep Integral Field Spectroscopy View of Nuclei of Galaxies (DIVING3D) Project. All early type galaxies (ETGs) were observed with the Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph Integral Field Unit (GMOS-IFU) installed on the Gemini South Telescope. We detected emission lines in 93% of the sample, mostly low-ionization nuclear emission-line region galaxies (LINERs). We did not find Transition Objects nor H II regions in the sample. Type 1 objects are seen in ∼23% of the galaxies.

We review some of our recent results about the Radial Acceleration Relation (RAR) and its interpretation as either a fundamental or an emergent law. The former interpretation is in agreement with a class of modified gravity theories that dismiss the need for dark matter in galaxies (MOND in particular). Our most recent analysis, which includes refinements on the priors and the Bayesian test for compatibility between the posteriors, confirms that the hypothesis of a fundamental RAR is rejected at more than 5σ from the very same data that was used to infer the RAR.

Total solar eclipses are popular targets for amateur astronomers. At the same time, the eclipses are still scientifically important to observe the solar corona. Therefore, the eclipses are a good chance for amateurs to participate in scientific observations. In fact, some of amateur astronomers in Japan have been carried out scientific observations at the total solar eclipses collaborating with professional solar scientists over more than ten years. Some scientific results have been produced from the collaboration. We present here our collaborative activities as a practical example of citizen science.

The ionospheric critical frequency (foF2) from ionosonde measurements at geographic high, middle, and low latitudes are analyzed with the occurrence of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) in long term variability of the solar cycles. We observed trends of monthly maximum foF2 values and monthly averaged values of CME parameters such as speed, angular width, mass, and kinetic energy with respect to time. The impact of CMEs on foF2 is very high at high latitudes and low at low latitudes. The time series for monthly maximum foF2 and monthly-averaged CME speed are moderately correlated at high and middle latitudes.

EnDiAs is an argentine group of astronomy fans founded fifteen years ago, whose goal is the public dissemination of Astronomy through Non-Formal Education. We consider that the sky is a World Heritage and everyone should have access to its observation and study. This paper shows the activities carried out by EnDiAs to fulfill its goal.

We present a spectral atlas of 70 type-I AGN with the wavelength ranging 0.4–2.5 μm. For 37 sources, this is the first report of NIR spectroscopy in literature. The sample was constructed to study narrow line Seyfert 1 and quasars, with a large range of line widths (800 km s−1 < FWHM < 4000 km s−1) and Fe II intensities (0.2 < R4570 < 2.8). This work presents partial results of an ongoing project that has the objective of modeling the continuum emission and emission lines in order to derive the physics driven the Eigenvector 1 through a panchromatic spectral analysis, with emphasis on strong to super-strong Fe ii emitters. Our results show that hot dust near the sublimation temperature is necessary to explain the 1μm break of the power law component of the continuum. We estimated the hot dust mass and found a weak or absent correlation with the Fe II intensity. Moreover, we found that low ionisation ions are formed in an outer region of the BLR.

Several models of the solar luminosity, , in the evolutionary timescale, have been computed as a function of time. However, the solar mass-loss, , is one of the drivers of variation in this timescale. The purpose of this study is to model mass-loss varying solar luminosity, , and to predict the luminosity variation before it leaves the main sequence. We numerically computed the up to 4.9 Gyrs from now. We used the solution to compute the modeled . We then validated our model with the current solar standard model (SSM). The shows consistency up to 8 Gyrs. At about 8.85 Gyrs, the Sun loses 28% of its mass and its luminosity increased to 2.2. The model suggests that the total main sequence lifetime is nearly 9 Gyrs. The model explains well the stage at which the Sun exhausts its central supply of hydrogen and when it will be ready to leave the main sequence. It may also explain the fate of the Sun by making some improvements in comparison to previous models.

A new metric tensor proposed by Howusu is presented. Problems associated with the metric tensor are pointed out. Some of the good aspects of the Howusu Metric are also outlined. It is argued that Howusu Metric holds some promise in generating healthy academic debate.

Nuclear rings are excellent laboratories to study star formation (SF) under extreme conditions. We compiled a sample of 9 galaxies that exhibit bright nuclear rings at 3-33 GHz radio continuum observed with the Jansky Very Large Array, of which 5 are normal star-forming galaxies and 4 are Luminous Infrared Galaxies (LIRGs). Using high frequency radio continuum as an extinction-free tracer of SF, we estimated the size and star formation rate of each nuclear ring and a total of 37 individual circumnuclear star-forming regions. Our results show that majority of the SF in the sample LIRGs take place in their nuclear rings, and circumnuclear SF in local LIRGs are much more spatially concentrated compared to those in the local normal galaxies and previously studied nuclear and extra-nuclear SF in normal galaxies at both low and high redshifts.

ITAU, the Iranian teacher’s astronomy union, has attempted for many years to introduce astronomy to the teachers and students not only in Iran but also around the world by providing various materials and projects. The primary goal of ITAU is also to protect the environment with a help of students; therefore, first, try to change the attitude of students. SINA, Student’s International Network for Astronomy, will follow the goals.

This symposium has highlighted key first steps made in addressing many goals of the IAU Strategic Plan for 2020–2030. Presentations on initiatives regarding education, with applications to development, outreach, equity, inclusion, big data, and heritage, are briefly summarized here. The many projects underway for the public, for students, for teachers, and for astronomers doing astronomy education research provide a foundation for future collaborative efforts, both regionally and globally.

We present recent results from our MAGNUM survey of nearby active galactic nuclei (AGN), which exploits observations from the optical/near-IR integral field spectrograph MUSE at VLT. We detect strongly enhanced line widths in emission line maps of four galaxies perpendicularly to their low-power jets and AGN ionisation cones, indicative of turbulent/outflowing material. The observation of a similar phenomenon in other works suggests that it originates from an interaction mechanism between the jet and the galaxy disc through which it propagates.
