Let $(A_m)_{m \in {\mathop Z}}$ be a sequence of bounded linear maps acting on an arbitrary Banach space X and admitting an exponential trichotomy and let $f_m:X \to X$ be a Lispchitz map for every $m\in {\mathop Z} $. We prove that whenever the Lipschitz constants of $f_m$, $m \in {\mathop Z} $, are uniformly small, the nonautonomous dynamics given by $x_{m+1}=A_mx_m+f_m(x_m)$, $m\in {\mathop Z} $, has various types of shadowing. Moreover, if X is finite dimensional and each $A_m$ is invertible we prove that a converse result is also true. Furthermore, we get similar results for one-sided and continuous time dynamics. As applications of our results, we study the Hyers–Ulam stability for certain difference equations and we obtain a very general version of the Grobman–Hartman's theorem for nonautonomous dynamics.

This work investigates the existence and bifurcation structure of multi-pulse steady-state solutions to bistable lattice dynamical systems. Such solutions are characterized by multiple compact disconnected regions where the solution resembles one of the bistable states and resembles another trivial bistable state outside of these compact sets. It is shown that the bifurcation curves of these multi-pulse solutions lie along closed and bounded curves (isolas), even when single-pulse solutions lie along unbounded curves. These results are applied to a discrete Nagumo differential equation and we show that the hypotheses of this work can be confirmed analytically near the anti-continuum limit. Results are demonstrated with a number of numerical investigations.

We study the existence of entropy solutions by assuming the right-hand side function f to be an integrable function for some elliptic nonlocal p-Laplacian type problems. Moreover, the existence of weak solutions for the corresponding parabolic cases is also established. The main aim of this paper is to provide some positive answers for the two questions proposed by Chipot and de Oliveira (Math. Ann., 2019, 375, 283-306).

We study a continuous-time branching random walk (BRW) on the lattice ℤd, d ∈ ℕ, with a single source of branching, that is the lattice point where the birth and death of particles can occur. The random walk is assumed to be spatially homogeneous, symmetric and irreducible but, in contrast to the majority of previous investigations, the random walk transition intensities a(x, y) decrease as |y − x|−(d+α) for |y − x| → ∞, where α ∈ (0, 2), that leads to an infinite variance of the random walk jumps. The mechanism of the birth and death of particles at the source is governed by a continuous-time Markov branching process. The source intensity is characterized by a certain parameter β. We calculate the long-time asymptotic behaviour for all integer moments for the number of particles at each lattice point and for the total population size. With respect to the parameter β, a non-trivial critical point βc > 0 is found for every d ≥ 1. In particular, if β > βc the evolutionary operator generated a behaviour of the first moment for the number of particles has a positive eigenvalue. The existence of a positive eigenvalue yields an exponential growth in t of the particle numbers in the case β > βc called supercritical. Classification of the BRW treated as subcritical (β < βc) or critical (β = βc) for the heavy-tailed random walk jumps is more complicated than for a random walk with a finite variance of jumps. We study the asymptotic behaviour of all integer moments of a number of particles at any point y ∈ ℤd and of the particle population on ℤd according to the ratio d/α.

The article is devoted to Hardy type inequalities on closed manifolds. By means of various weighted Ricci curvatures, we establish several sharp Hardy type inequalities on closed weighted Riemannian manifolds. Our results complement in several aspects those obtained recently in the non-compact Riemannian setting.

We consider the Cauchy problem for a general class of parabolic partial differential equations in the Euclidean space ℝN. We show that given a weighted Lp-space $L_w^p({\mathbb {R}}^N)$ with 1 ⩽ p < ∞ and a fast growing weight w, there is a Schauder basis $(e_n)_{n=1}^\infty$ in $L_w^p({\mathbb {R}}^N)$ with the following property: given an arbitrary positive integer m there exists nm > 0 such that, if the initial data f belongs to the closed linear span of en with n ⩾ nm, then the decay rate of the solution of the problem is at least t−m for large times t.

The result generalizes the recent study of the authors concerning the classical linear heat equation. We present variants of the result having different methods of proofs and also consider finite polynomial decay rates instead of unlimited m.

The Liouville equation is of fundamental importance in the derivation of continuum models for physical systems which are approximated by interacting particles. However, when particles undergo instantaneous interactions such as collisions, the derivation of the Liouville equation must be adapted to exclude non-physical particle positions, and include the effect of instantaneous interactions. We present the weak formulation of the Liouville equation for interacting particles with general particle dynamics and interactions, and discuss the results using two examples.

We show the incompressible Navier–Stokes–Maxwell system with solenoidal Ohm's law can be derived from the two-fluid incompressible Navier–Stokes–Maxwell system when the momentum transfer coefficient tends to zero. The strategy is based on the decay and dissipative properties of the electromagnetic field.

This paper is mainly concerned with the global asymptotic behaviour of the unique solution to a class of singular Dirichlet problems − Δu = b(x)g(u), u > 0, x ∈ Ω, u|∂Ω = 0, where Ω is a bounded smooth domain in ℝn, g ∈ C1(0, ∞) is positive and decreasing in (0, ∞) with $\lim _{s\rightarrow 0^+}g(s)=\infty$, b ∈ Cα(Ω) for some α ∈ (0, 1), which is positive in Ω, but may vanish or blow up on the boundary properly. Moreover, we reveal the asymptotic behaviour of such a solution when the parameters on b tend to the corresponding critical values.
