Aims and Scope
Psychometrika, the official journal of the Psychometric Society, is devoted to the development of psychology as a quantitative rational science. Articles examine statistical methods, discuss mathematical techniques, and advance theory for evaluating behavioral data in psychology, education, and the social and behavioral sciences generally. There are three main sections in Psychometrika: Theory and Methods, Application and Case Studies (ACS), and Reviews. Additionally, there is a section online for software, data, and other electronic supplementary material for the articles in these sections.
Theory and Methods is the primary section, and contains articles that present original research on the development of quantitative models for psychological phenomena, and on quantitative methodology in the social and behavioral sciences, including new mathematical and statistical techniques for the evaluation of psychological data and the application of such techniques. The section also includes focus articles, accompanying commentaries, and a rejoinder, which are intended to promote open debate on quantitative methodology in the social and behavioral sciences.
The Application and Case Studies (ACS) section focuses on bridging novel methodologies with their practical applications in psychology, education, and related fields in the social sciences. ACS aims to enhance the substantive understanding of key phenomena in these disciplines through the application of innovative methods to empirical data. Manuscripts submitted to ACS should demonstrate methodological rigor and feature one or more real data examples that are of broad interest to educational, psychological, social, or behavioral scientists. Submissions showcasing novel applications of existing methods are also encouraged. Additionally, manuscripts related to software development will be considered, provided they explicitly address software development in platforms such as R, Python, or MATLAB, and include both the source code and replication materials for empirical analyses. Submissions should emphasize the integration of computational methods with statistical models, highlighting their practical applications through empirical data.
Reviews section is to provide contemporary reviews of multiple sources of knowledge and tools, including books, literature, software, and media. The topics are closely related to psychometrics, quantitative psychology, and areas in statistics and data mining, as well as substantive areas in psychology, social sciences, etc. that are inspiring for quantitative work in Psychometrika.
