Volume 26 - Issue 4 - July 2020
In this issue, (198-204) author Martin Roger Baggaley defines value-based healthcare (VBHC) as outcomes that matter to patients divided by the cost of achieving these outcome. The article explains the relevance to UK mental health services and outlines the differences between quality improvement (QI) and VBHC.
In the accompanying commentary (205-207), author Paul Wallang explains that value-based healthcare holds great potential to transform healthcare globally. The commentary reviews the historical milestones in its evolution and raises critical questions regarding how it should proceed.
We feature Florence Nightingale (1820-1920) on the cover as an early outcomes innovator and in celebration of her 200th anniversary this year.
