Microspeakers are key components of mobile devices in current consumer products; moreover, the user experience of multimedia products plays an essential role. The objective of this study was to investigate the acoustic performance of microspeakers in different enclosure parameters for mobile devices. Two methodologies are performed. The first model is an electro-mechano-acoustical model (EMA) of microspeaker along with distribution model of enclosure effect; the 2nd model, the details of diaphragms are taken into account in calculating the distribution models of microspeaker with enclosure parameters. They were combined and applied to determine microspeaker performance levels for mobile devices. Two methodologies show acceptable agreement with experimental results. The distribution model can well simulate the high frequency response than lumped model of microspeaker. The results can predict microspeaker system performance before industrial design and mechanism placement processes are executed.

In rock engineering, evaluating the post-peak strength and deformation of rock is necessary. To explore the elasto-plastic behavior of sandstone in the post-peak stage, a series of strain-controlled triaxial tests were conducted under different confining pressures. According to the post-peak characteristics, a constitutive model based on nonlinear elasticity and generalized plasticity is proposed. This proposed model is characterized by the following features: (1) Nonlinear elasticity is observed under hydrostatic and shear loading; (2) the associated flow rule is followed; (3) substantial plastic deformation occurs during shear loading; and (4) post-peak softening behavior is accurately predicted. This model requires twelve material parameters, three for elasticity and nine for plasticity. The proposed model was validated by comparing the triaxial test results of Mushan sandstone at different hydrostatic pressures under dry and saturated conditions. In addition, the model is versatile; it can simulate the deformational behavior of two other sandstones. In summary, the proposed model can reasonably predict the complete stress–strain curve of sandstone.

This article deals with the analysis of free-free beams by an analytical method. The well-known Green's function method is employed, and exact solution for the problem is obtained. As a second problem, the simply supported-free beam with rotational rigid body motion is analyzed. It is initially shown that ordinary Green's functions cannot be constructed due to a mathematical contradiction. To remedy this limitation, the Fredholm Alternative Theorem is utilized. This theorem eliminates the contradiction and enables analysts to obtain modified Green's functions. The fundamental existence conditions are derived and thoroughly investigated from the structural point of view. Finally, the deflection functions of these beams are found using modified Green's functions.

In this study, the anti-loosening characteristics of a precision flank-locking locknut fabricated under various machining processes and tested in different dynamic environments were investigated. The control parameters considered include the tightening torque and thread pitch of the set screw, machining process on the end plane of locknut, and vibration amplitude and frequency of dynamic loading in service, etc. Their sensitivities on the axial force ratio and anti-loosening ratio of the locknut were evaluated using Taguchi method. It was found that the pretension of locknut, the tightening torque and the pitch of set screw, and the machining process of the nut's end plane were the significant control parameters for the anti-loosening performance of the locknut. Moreover, the results of experimental measurements were employed in the regression fit on the performance of the locknut. The regression model was able to predict the anti-loosening ratio with 4.42% average error comparing with the measurements. Furthermore, the optimized design of the locknut through the Taguchi method was able to increase the axial force ratio and anti-loosening ratio by 20.4% and 16.8%, respectively, comparing with standard locknut.

With the consideration of the flexoelectric effect, the dispersion feature of plane waves propagating in infinite piezoelectric medium and the reflection amplitude ratio at a mechanically traction-free and dielectrically charge-free surface of semi-infinite piezoelectric half-space are studied in this paper. The flexoelectric effect is essentially the microstructure effect of heterogeneous piezoelectric medium. Besides, the strain gradient effect and the micro-inertial effect are also introduced to reflect the influences of the microstructure. Different from the classical piezoelectric medium, there are five kinds of coupled elastic waves in the microstructured piezoelectric medium. The influences of the flexoelectric effect, the strain gradient effect and the micro-inertial effect upon the dispersion feature of the coupled elastic waves and the reflection amplitude ratio are studied numerically. The numerical results are shown graphically and are validated by the energy conservation law. It is found that these microstructure effects have obvious influences upon the dispersion feature of the coupled elastic waves and therefore also affect the reflection energy partition at the mechanically free surface. Especially, the micro-inertial effect has fundamental influences on the dispersion properties of the coupled elastic waves.

This paper reports an investigation on thermo-electro-mechanical vibration of graphene/piezoelectric graphene/piezoelectric/graphene sandwich nanobeams. Based on the nonlocal elasticity theory, Timoshenko beam theory and Hamilton's principles, the governing equations are developed and solved using generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method. The effects of the nonlocal parameter, external electrical voltage, temperature change and axial force on vibration of graphene/piezoelectric/graphene sandwich nanobeams are examined. The performance and the accuracy of the presented model are highlighted through numerical examples with different boundary conditions. This study reports that the nonlocal parameter and thermo-electro-mechanical loadings have important effect on the natural frequencies and the deflection mode shapes of the graphene/piezoelectric/graphene sandwich nanobeam. The present work can serve as guideline for the design of a nanoscale graphene/piezoelectric/graphene beams based electromechanical resonator sensors.

When a power module is under a continuous electrical load, a temperature effect is induced by the current load in the module configuration. The joint material therefore has long-term temperature and mechanical loadings under supplied power. A long-term temperature load can change the material and mechanical properties, including voiding, cracking, creeping and fracturing. Au/20Sn eutectic alloy, a highly temperature resistant material, is typically used for electric interconnections in high-power modules. The Au/20Sn is converted into AuSn and an Au5Sn intermetallic compound (IMC) by solid liquid inter-diffusion (SLID) bonding to form joints with high melting points. In this study, a test vehicle based on an actual power module was designed and fabricated to investigate and understand the material properties and mechanical behavior of Au/20Sn solder under a temperature load. The joint microstructure exhibited variation under different thermal treatment conditions such as temperature and load durations. The shear strength test was conducted to examine the mechanical strength of the joints under different thermal load conditions. The failure mode of the joint was further determined using fracture morphology after the shear test. Finally, the shear strength of Au/20Sn was identified to investigate the high temperature resistance of joints under different temperatures. The mechanical strengths of joints under different temperature loads are expressions of different mechanical characteristics and can be used to determine reliability at an intended high application temperature.

In this paper, unsteady flow and heat transfer of water flow in a backward-facing step under pulsating nanofluid blowing are studied numerically. Attention is focused to examine the impact of this type of blowing and its pertinent parameters on the heat transfer performance and to detect possible non-equilibrium between the base fluid and the nanoparticles inside the flow field. To this aim, the Eulerian-Eulerian two-phase model is adopted. This approach consists of separate equation sets for the base fluid and the nanoparticles. So, it provides details of the flow field for each of the constituents, separately. Computations are undertaken for different cases and the consequences of the frequency, amplitude, and the mean velocity of the pulsating blowing as well as the type, diameter, and the volume fraction of the nanoparticles therein on the heat transfer characteristics are analyzed. It is found that in addition to thermal conductivity of the blown nanoparticles, their penetration into the water flow is an important trait that has a momentous role on the heat transfer rate. In the current Eulerian-Eulerian simulation, temperature distributions of the base fluid and the nanoparticles are similar but the corresponding velocity fields are quite distinct. This reveals a kind of non-equilibrium between the base fluid and the nanoparticles inside the flow that invalidates equilibrium approaches (e.g., the single-phase model or the two-phase mixture model) for the description of the problem.

The linear stability boundaries of journal bearings lubricated with a non-Newtonian fluid have been investigated in this paper. Based on the Rabinowitsch fluid model, a non-Newtonian dynamic Reynolds equation for journal bearings is derived and then applied to analyze the linear dynamic characteristics of short journal bearings. Comparing with the Newtonian-lubricant case, the non-Newtonian rheology of dilatant lubricants provides a larger area of linearly stable region. However, the non-Newtonian properties of pseudo-plastic lubricants results in a reverse trend for the short journal bearing.

Based upon the Shliomis ferromagnetic fluid model and the Stokes microcontinuum theory incorporating with the Christensen stochastic model, a modified Reynolds equation of centrosymmetric squeeze films has been derived in this paper. The Reynolds equation includes the combined effects of non-Newtonian rheology, magnetic fluids with applied magnetic fields, rotational inertia forces, and surface roughness. To guide the use of the derived equation, the squeeze film of rotational rough-surface circular disks lubricated with non-Newtonian magnetic fluids is illustrated. According to the results obtained, the effects of rotation inertia decrease the load capacity and the squeeze film time of smooth circular disks. By the use of non-Newtonian magnetic fluids with applied magnetic fields, the rotational circular disks predict better squeeze film performances. When the influences of circumferential roughness patterns are considered, the non-Newtonian magnetic-fluid lubricated rotational rough disks with applied magnetic fields provide further higher values of the load capacity and the squeeze film time as compared to those of the smooth case.

The shapes of a pore resulting from an entrapped bubble by a solidification front for different locations of the bubble below the free surface are predicted in this work. Bubble location is an important factor affecting temperature gradient in liquid, solute gas dissipated into the ambient, heterogeneous nucleation of the bubble and shape of the bubble cap, and subsequent entrapment and the pore shape in solid. The shapes of pores in solid influence not only material properties, but also contemporary issues of engineering, biology, medical technology and science, etc. This study takes into account solute transport across a coupling shape of the pore cap determined by the Young-Laplace equation governing balance of liquid, gas and capillary pressures. The results find that increases in depthwise location of a bubble increase pore radius and time for bubble entrapment as solute transport is from the pore across cap emerged through a concentration boundary layer along the solidification front into surrounding liquid in the early stage. On the other hand, the bubble cannot be entrapped, provided that solute transport in opposite directions across the cap submerged in a concentration boundary layer along the solidification front. The predicted growth and entrapment of a tiny bubble as a pore in solid agree with experimental data. Understanding and controlling of the pore shape via controlling bubble location is of interest and challenging.

The general form of mathematical model of cable winding/unwinding system is defined for several different constructions. The novelty of this mathematical model is detection and mathematical formulation of influence of new dynamic variables: winding/unwinding radius and cable length on dynamic response of cable winding/unwinding system. The validity of the obtained theoretical contribution has been illustrated through one case study by using a newly developed software package CWUSOFT which was generated in MATLAB. Theoretical and simulation results are confirmed through the experimental analysis of one novel construction of the cable winding/unwinding system.
