We apply the Moser iteration method to obtain a pointwise bound on the norm of the second fundamental form from a bound on its Ln norm for a complete minimal submanifold in a sphere. As an application we show that a complete minimal submanifold in a sphere with finite total curvature and Ricci curvature bounded away from -∞ must be compact. This complements similar results of Osserman and Oliveira in the case the ambient space is the Euclidean and the hyperbolic space respectively.

A subset S of an associative ring R is a uniform insulator for R provided a S b ≠ 0 for any nonzero a, b ∈ R. The ring R is called uniformly strongly prime of bound m if R has uniform insulators and the smallest of those has cardinality m. Here we compute these bounds for matrix rings over fields and obtain refinements of some results of van den Berg in this context.

More precisely, for a field F and a positive integer k, let m be the bound of the matrix ring Mk(F), and let n be dimF(V), where V is a subspace of Mk(F) of maximal dimension with respect to not containing rank one matrices. We show that m + n = k2. This implies, for example, that n = k2 − k if and only if there exists a (nonassociative) division algebra over F of dimension k.

Given a lattice formation F of full characteristic, an F - Fitting class is a Fitting class with stronger closure properties involving F -subnormal subgroups. The main aim of this paper is to prove that the associated injectors possess a good behaviour with respect to F -subnormal subgroups.

Composition operators Cτ between Orlicz spaces Lϕ (Ω, Σ, μ) generated by measurable and nonsingular transformations τ from Ω into itself are considered. We characterize boundedness and compactness of the composition operator between Orlicz spaces in terms of properties of the mapping τ, the function ϕ and the measure space (Ω, Σ, μ). These results generalize earlier results known for Lp-spaces.

Let Β1, Β2 be a pair of Banach spaces and T be a vector valued martingale transform (with respect to general filtration) which maps Β1-valued martingales into Β2-valued martingales. Then, the following statements are equivalent: T is bounded from into for some p (or equivalently for every p) in the range 1 < p < ∞; T is bounded from into BMOB2; T is bounded from BMOB1 into BMOB2; T is bounded from into . Applications to UMD and martingale cotype properties are given. We also prove that the Hardy space defined in the case of a general filtration has nice dense sets and nice atomic decompositions if and only if Β has the Radon-Nikodým property.

We give a formula for the Dixmier-Douady class of a continuous-trace groupoid crossed product that arises from an action of a locally trivial, proper, principal groupoid on a bundle of elementary C*-algebras that satisfies Fell's condition.

It is shown that if E, F are Fréchet spaces, E ∈ (Hub), F ∈ (DN) then H(E, F) = Hub(E, F) holds. Using this result we prove that a Fréchet space E is nuclear and has the property (Hub) if and only if every entire function on E with values in a Fréchet space F ∈ (DN) can be represented in the exponential form. Moreover, it is also shown that if H(F*) has a LAERS and E ∈ (Hub) then H(E × F*) has a LAERS, where E, F are nuclear Fréchet spaces, F* has an absolute basis, and conversely, if H(E × F*) has a LAERS and F ∈ (DN) then E ∈ (Hub).

In this paper, first, we study the existence of the positive solutions of the nonlinear elliptic equations in unbounded domains. The existence is affected by the properties of the geometry and the topology of the domain. We assert that if there exists a (PS)c-sequence with c belonging to a suitable interval depending by the equation, then a ground state solution and a positive higher energy solution exist, too. Next, we study the upper half strip with a hole. In this case, the ground state solution does not exist, however there exists at least a positive higher energy solution.

Let E be a Banach space whose dual E* has the approximation property, and let m be an index. We show that E* has the Radon-Nikodým property if and only if every m-homogeneous integral polynomial from E into any Banach space is nuclear. We also obtain factorization and composition results for nuclear polynomials.

For any bounded linear operator A in a Banach space, two generalized condition numbers, k(A) and k(A) are defined in this paper. These condition numbers may be applied to the perturbation analysis for the solution of ill-posed differential equations and bounded linear operator equations in infinite dimensional Banach spaces. Different expressions for the two generalized condition numbers are discussed in this paper and applied to the perturbation analysis of the operator equation.

Let T be a bounded linear operator acting on a Hilbert space H. The B-Weyl spectrum of T is the set σBW(T) of all λ ∈ Сsuch that T − λI is not a B-Fredholm operator of index 0. Let E(T) be the set of all isolated eigenvalues of T. The aim of this paper is to show that if T is a hyponormal operator, then T satisfies generalized Weyl's theorem σBW(T) = σ(T)/E(T), and the B-Weyl spectrum σBW(T) of T satisfies the spectral mapping theorem. We also consider commuting finite rank perturbations of operators satisfying generalized Weyl's theorem.
